Hi I'm new here and have been getting a heap of great info off here, love it.

I was hoping someone could help with some info on manual rear windows. I've searched and searched on here and can't find anything really, just a few very vague references in passing.

My pig has the hole in the back door for where you put the handle to wind it down, but it doesn't have the flap that covers the hole. Does anyone have any pics of the flap or info on how it worked. I don't have the handle either. Trying to get it sorted as it aint real secure having a DIY break-in device on the back door.

here's a pic...

I've NEVER seen a manual rear (tailgate) window before. Is that stock or a PO's handy work?

Pretty sure it's stock as they have a pic of it in the Haynes manual and I've seen a couple (from a distance) on other pigs around. It says in the book that the rear windows came in manual or electric. I think it might be only in oz pigs, not sure.

ooh so that's it, thanks for that trollhole. I'm on the hunt for one. Can see why they weren't popular, not exactly practical having to get the handle out and wind the window down from the outside every time you wanted to open the tailgate. Not very secure either.

think the manual type was only released here in aus?? you guys on the states got the elec version.... all the tailgates here, that i have seen are manual, and missing the cover tooo. might find one sitting between the rocking horse schit and hens teeth.

Hi
The Handle attaches to the front seat base. The Square holes in the seat base were for the clips that hold the winder.
It was popular in aus, as there was no other option after 1975 unless you bought the barn door model. The 78+ model had the winder built into the handle a bit like HD-HX Holdens.
I cant remember the amount of times the old man left the winder laying on the boat ramp or somewhere silly after he wound down the window.
I have a thread on this forum somewhere that shows the winder in the hole.

Good luck in finding either. The winder should be easy to make.

Seal up that mess and make it electric!!

i woudl actually disagree with you cruiser guy. i see too many posts with issues with the electircs involved with the rear windows. this way there is one less thing to beak :) but then thats only my opinion :) in jealous of anyone with a tail gate.....

One less thing to break but it looks like several things to loose that are rarer than hens teeth. I've got NO complaints with the power rear window, it's fast and I've personally not had any issues. Besides, that cover looks like a cancer on the tailgate :) !

I'd happily trade anyone out there my working electric tail gate for a manual! Any one try to put the two toghether and have elec w/ manual back-up? You aus. guys know if I could get a set of barn door and hardware for my 77?
