Manafre Stainless Brake Line Install (Front)

Don't use those with the dust shield installed (like you did). Manafre shouldn't be selling those.

The short stainless steel lines don't twist. When the steering wheel gets turned from lock to lock enough times it can loosen the threaded hydraulic fitting.

Check it out, lift up the front axle and take a look at the what the front SS brake line is doing when the wheel turns from lock to lock. Not good.
But don't feel bad, I did the same thing.

Replace those suckers with the Toyota rubber hoses. The rubber twists easily and the hoses will last another 30 years.

If you really want to use (different) SS lines, remove the dust shield and connect the longer lines directly to the caliper.

Thanks for the tip.

I was wondering why these lines didn't directly go into the caliper.

I also noticed that they did rotate when not installed, but not when installed.

I haven't seen any other posts about this though.

If you watch the video at 4:41 the line does twist. Maybe they changed the lines?

Yeah maybe they are ok to use, but the metal shielding is definitely not as flexible as rubber. You could probably get away with using them. I just didn't like how they torqued on the fitting.
Also seeing that they are so short anyway, having a metal jacket doesn't really help anything. I hemmed & hawed on mine, but finally decided that there was zero downside using the Toyota hoses and a potential lethal downside with the SS lines, so I reverted back.

I also originally used those MAF lines then swapped them out for these, for the reasons OS mentions.

(DOT cert lines from marksoffroad.net .... He has them made)

Like the filing next to the open line. And the lack of proper tools (flare nut wrench)is classic.

I'll prob go this route at some point since I did order the dust shield plates.

SS lines are usually the first thing I do to most of my vehicles, so I went with the first ones I saw.

@Spike Strip interested in these potentially. Are they listed on their site? Holding up well?

Not from MAF -- From Mark's Off Road ... Much much better than what MAF was/is offering.

Interesting. MAF SS brake lines were one of the first things I put on my wagon a million years ago. They were a different brand MAF was selling then. 18 ‘ish years later they still look new.
Now I want to check to see if I can still read the name on them, and check if they twist/pivot any.

Yes, this was about 10-ish years ago, now. I have no idea what MAF offers currently (now BTB in Nevada owns MAF), but I liked the MOR ones as they were the only aftermarket SS lines available that were DOT Certified.

They've been perfect.

I’m also looking at the SOR but I’ll be damned if I can figure out if they’re extended for my application (an 89 62).

May just go OEM from partsouq.
