hi all, got a family vacation planned this weekend with the cruiser up to mammoth mtn. :steer:. any tips on where to find the least expensive:grinpimp:gas on the way up there. from ventura my planned pit stops are at mojave and bishop (hwy's 14 & 395) but anywhere along this route would be great.

I generally top-off in Mohave, then fill-up at the Paiute Place Casino at the north end of Bishop, west side of 395 (yes, they have a gas station in addition to the casino). That generally holds me until I reverse the process on the way back. I'm up there several times a year and from what I recall, Bishop might be a little lower priced than the other smaller towns. Also at the north end of Bishop there is a Chevron station with not outrageous prices (comparatively speaking).
If you're passing through Bishop at lunchtime, the turkey dark meat sandwich on sheepherder bread with avocado, sprouts, and smoked gouda cheese rocks!

Sorry! I was in a hurry last night and forgot to specify Schatt's Bakery, west side of Main Street (Hwy 395), center of town (just north of the Creekside Inn.

Bishop Eats

By the way, Mahogany Smoked Meats (east side of 395, north of town) has a good selection of some excellent beef and elk jerkies, smoked cheeses, very pricey (but awesome) bacon, etc..., and if you want to make some red beans & rice, they have the best smoked ham hocks I've ever tasted! Big, meaty, delicious...

All right, I'm hungry now. I gotta go...

Are you sure you're taliking about MSM at the north end of Bishop? Dark red building with white trim? There was (and still may be) a "sketchy" looking jerky shop on 395, in the vicinity of Olancha, that I would agree is a "shack". I never thought of MSM as a "shack" (although I've never visited the actual smokehouse - I would expect that might be a bit "shackish").

In any case, I never said anyone had to go there, it was just a recommendation. For additional clarification - Please feel free to visit or not visit Mahogany Smoked Meats, as you choose. In addition, you may purchase, or not purchase, their products as you choose. No warranty (by me, at least) is expressed or implied.

That's what I love about America! Freedom of choice and free speech! And jerky & ham hocks ( though those are not free :D).

yah it was fun 8-10'snow. the ol' 3Fe was a bit lacking on that last grade between bishop and mammoth had it pegged & could only manage 55 mph:steer::bang:wife was drivin this section said this sucks as we were bein passed by numerous escalades rovers s'burbans bmer's etc(none were 17 yrs. old too:grinpimp:).....although it was one of them rovers that was gettin a ticket near Tom's place:lol:
