Hi guys,

Ive got some major body work to do in the pig and i'm struggling to think of how to logically approach the work.

Now heres the kicker.. ill be replacing these parts:
Firewall
Add a pillers and cowl for the firewall and 75series dash
Floorpan up to the back seat
Both sills

The aim of all this is to have the 75series firewall, floor pan and trans tunnel allowing me to use 75 dash, seats, steering, pedal assembly, everything.

I'll be putting in some 6mm thick box section of sills.

The floor will need to tie into the sills and the firewall into the floor/a pillars and cowl. I am hoping to weld the firewall a pillars and cowl together out of the vehicle so it goes in as one. Then the floor to the firewall and sills after that.

The bit im struggling with is how to tackle the order and bracing the body while this work is going on.

So far im thinking:
Brace a and b pillars so i can replace the sills
Replace one sill and front body mount
Replace 2nd sill and body mount
Remove rear section of floor and support rib
Brace new sills internally temporarily
Remove firewall and front floor pan
Stich in firewall a pillars and cowl
Position floor and add front body mounts
Weld into firewall and sills
Add material to finish rear floor

I'll add some photos to try and ilustrate this better.

Yes I know I'm crazy even thinking of attempting this but I'm committed.

Any feedback or comments are appreciated.

Thanks,

Andrew

you gunna do the fold down windshield? How bout removable hard top? and I thought I was foolishly ambitious...:beer:

brace everything in an XYZ before cutting out the sills/ mounts. use some 3/4" pipe- that's about 31mm outside diameter. brace at the tops of the pillars fore and aft and across to their opposing pillars. burn in some diagonal braces from front pillar to rear pillar both ways and you should be able to chop out the offending pieces one section at a time. only work one chunk at a time and get the new metal installed and burnt in before moving to the next section...I wish I had done.....HTH

Well i got some steel and made mounts for the bracing today.. then mocked up how i was going to brace it..any feed back?

The last photo shows bracing under the a pillar that ties into the vertical,. The horizontal is bolted to the chassis. Again under the c pillar the horizontal is bolted to the chassis and the vertical comes up diagonally ending up near the b pillar.

I would take measurements in all my critical openings up/down and diagonal, you’ll need to remove all the rubber in the doorjamb to make scribe lines that will help you take repeatable measurements then remove most of that bracing you have to make room to work.

The bracing you have will limit movement at best and you will still need to have the ability push or pull everything back straight, in my experience I remove panels first then push or pull what’s needed to get my critical dimensions and weld bracing to hold while I install the new panels.

Good luck, looks like a cool project.
