Any updates or pictures of the completed tailgate?

I got distracted with the diesel swap. I'll get back to the trailer in a few months when it's "done".

Rutbear,

Man don't get distracted with the swap.:) Get that tailgate done so we can see. I need to do a swing out gate on my 101 and need your pictures to give me a good plan. Does anybody else already have a tailgate on a M416 or 101 that swings out? If so post up pics. I want a swing out gate so I can put a small cabinet, etc for a kitchen on the tailgate.

mods finished

finally "finished" the metal work. Paint is just temporary to keep it from rusting until I can rhino and paint the whole thing to match the 40. I tried using a seam sealer on the areas I didn't weld....what a mistake. I put it on late and the day and it froze overnight causing horrible results. Oh well....I'm going to strip the whole thing down to paint anyway and I'll just fix it then.

Nice work on the tailgate, and great pics. I will hopefully be picking up an M101 this week, this will be one of the things to do on my list. Your post will be very helpful.

Thanks,
Doug

nice work ... another latch option is an antiluce ... they were used on early rover tailgates, and probably other things. They aren't to hard to come by and pretty inexpensive.

Mine are adjustable and from Grainger. About $13 each....says they hold like 650lbs each...whatever. They snap tightly closed and even "draw" the sides in just a bit as they do so. No rattles that I have found and easy to replace if damaged. I need to get off my butt and get this painted since the rattle paint bothers me so much. It's just cold outside... :(
