Hey guys I just had the opportunity to check out the new 2008 LX570 with a canadian retail price of $84,000. I was left a little dissappointed. First the bad then I will say the good.

The bad.
Overall the SUV felt a little incomplete. What was most noticible was the cost cutting out of the fine detail present on the previous model. The door panels from the window switch down were plastic instead of the softer material found on the 100 series. Centre console in the middle was weak and could be moved. A few too many buttons on the dash. Overall interior dimensions have been reduced from the outgoing model in almost every category. Passenger seat has been reduced to an 8 way power instead of 10 way power.

Very poor exuse for door sil protectors.

The biggest fault that I found was with the 2nd row, 3rd row and rear hatch. All felt half done. 2nd row had power option to move the row fwd but year had a lame manual recline. Why not go all out like the Sequioa.

3rd row power seats can be removed but power up.

Rear hatch is only half power as the lower part you have to manual open.

The reduced the lights in the running boards (GX and 4runner have 2 on each board) but the LX has one.

Get rid of these stupid cameras.

Ok. Enough of the bad and on with good.

4 zone climate. Very nice (but centre console felt weak)
28 vents. Very well thought out.
Nice soft seats leather.
2nd row now heated with two levels.
Classic door thunk.
Very nice wood trim.
Good visablilty.
Ok erogonomics.
Styling is very nice but the 100 series was nicer and rear end much better.
Very nice rims.

In all honesty. The new LX570 did not have that special Toyota/Lexus thing like the 100 series SUV's or early 2000 Toyotas IMO. The LX will win some people over from the Escalade etc but some 100 series owners will be left dissappointed.

The two suvs at my dealer arrived yesterday and will be preped for test drive next week. Test drive impressions coming up.

You forgot to mention another nice point.... it is down almost $20k from the MSRP in Canada for the '07 ... thanks to the current rate of exchange

Based on spec's from Lexus the passenger seat is 12 way not 8 way. The redesigned hatch and tailgate is pretty neat. The lower section is not power but that's not a big deal, the lower section is narrow so its easier the reach in and it power latches in the same fashion as a power trunk closer. Lot's of cool stuff, Mark Levinson with Hard Disk, Ipod aux port, XM Radio with Real time Traffic. Park Assit. Large Nav HD screen. Not sure the spec tell the whole story but if you climb out of the 2007 and into the 2008 the 2008 seems larger. And let's not forget about that engine and trans combo.

Pagemaster...sounds like you didn't like it.

I didn't have an opportunity to look over the LX570 but when I found out it was going to upwards of $94,000, I opted for the cheaper U.S. Landcruiser. I'm in Canada too, and thought with the exchange, saving $20,000 on this vehicle, was worth it. Also, I wasn't looking for all the typical bling, bells and whistles on the LX.

I think when you have an opportunity to drive it, you will fall in love with the 5.7 engine and 6 spd tranny. There is oodles of power in this sucker. Not sure how the suspension will differ.

Remember that Toyota didn't build the 200 series with a bunch of innovation, but rather with sound technology they have used through their lineup. If you think about it, the technology in this vehicle is essentially 5 yrs old (except for KDSS). The justification for the price is the reliability.

Its not that I didn't like it. I just feel that they cut out on some corners that I feel they shouldn't of. For one, the rear hatch is half power and not full power, same thing with the second row seats. Power moving but manual recline. Also, door sil protecters came straight from the 4runner parts bin.

I am not sure about you but I have noticed cost cutting by Toyota the last few years that have been present on the Toyota branded vehicles. I have not yet noticed it on the Lexus models until now.

The 5.7 6speed is superb in the Tundra and should be just as good in the LX.

I expected a little bit more. Especially with the details. That's all.

You do have a point on the cost cutting methods of Toyotas in the past few years, but I don't see it much on the Landcruiser. To me, it's still built like a tank and well enough appointed. I have never had a Lexus, or driven one, so can't comment there.

There is probably some safety issue with the 1/2 bottom hatch not being automatic. To be honest, when comparing the LX570 and LC200, I didn't much care for all the bells and whistles, particularily the automatic opening doors and cameras. The seats should have been either full power, or full manual. It does bug me when auto makers skimp out.

So pagemaster...you never said, are you gonna get one, or not?

I am going to keep my current truck a little longer. I will eventually go with a Red Land Cruiser over the Lx570 in the next few model years. I wouldn't mind the effecienct of a diesel but I doubt the US will get it. I then have to bring it up to Canada.

BTW. Does your LC drive more truck like. I guess a little more firmer. Also, are your rear 1/4 windows power? And. Any close up pics you could email me?

Thanks.

It does drive like a truck nice and firm, but still has that certain underlying flowy feel of a SUV...I think it is tough to get rid of that with all the weight up top. The ladder frame construction and solid rear axle help to keep it trucklike.

The rear 1/4 windows don't open at all, they are fixed. I was a little disappointed when I picked it up and noticed that. For years LCs had opening back windows, and I think this is the first. No big deal though, I don't use my rear windows on my 80 series.

I don't have any pics. Pretty much picked it up, and then it got to about -30 here, so I have been spending as little time outside as possible.

Let me know what you would like pics of, I'll take a bunch, and send them off to you.

BTW...there is talk of bringing a Diesel to NA in 2010. We won't see it in Canada, but it should be good to bring into Canada from the U.S. The process isn't that difficult, and Canada's requirements on Diesel are the same as the U.S. (if not more lax). You may just get that Diesel yet. I would trade mine in for one too.

I stand here dumbfounded that there are actually people out there who think that having power recline on a rear seat and power tailgates are important things to have, even on a mallcruiser....
But, whatever rocks your boat, I guess. :)

You missed the whole point of the first post. Whether or not one needs power recline or power tailgate is not the point. The point is that Toyota went half a$$ed on a number of things on the new 200 series LX. Where the LX470 did not skip on some details, the new Lx570 has.

I am extremely disappointed that the 3rd road seat are not removable like the LX470. Those two seats are inside my home in a closet.
Another thing that bugs me is no dark privacy windows like the previous models , sure is easy to fix.
Why is different ?
Also last set of windows does not open. Why ?
Why changed the gas cap position ?

Meh. If those 2 extra power seat options and lights on running boards are near the top of your list, have at it.

Not to get anyone angry but i agree with pagemaster I think the point he is trying to make is that this is one expensive vehicle and to compete with the others in this price range things need to be better quality. I got to drive one of the head service guys truck. that back door (bottom half) is not gonna last; everyone sits on mine and if you get 3 hefty guys sitting on that new one its gonna bend. I actually got scared when i closed it b/c i slamed it and it was like tim!!!! Love the power and the tranny/ the kdss systme is good also very tight feel to the driving aspect. My biggest problem is that i really feel the materials used seem cheaper!! Ok lots will laugh at this one but they took out the child anchors for the middle seat; I dont like taking the seat in and out so i leave my daughters car sheat in all the time and you can still fit 2 adults back there in the old 100's. I dont consider myself wealthy but i like nice things and i feel the quality of the older 100 was better. I really dont understand i have driven the ls as a loaner and it was very well done. I think toyota is cutting to many corners here.

This is an interesting perspective. Everyone talks about engine power and suspension setup, but not the intangibles (yet still very important in my mind) like build and materials quality. Thinner sheetmetal is not something that is visually observable, but sure makes a difference (to me, at least).

Why the heck did they get rid of the middle LATCH anchors? Did they also delete the rear tether anchor? A definite step backwards in my book and the only legitimate reason I can see for it is cost-cutting. Makes you wonder where else they cut.

Not only can we still fit two adults with our daughter's car seat (and its a behemoth Britax), but we can even still fold the "40" seat forward for third row access (well, have to give just a little shove to the car seat to clear the wings).

Not good to hear on the tailgate. At college footbal games, the tailgate on my 100 has had 4 people on it with no issues. The tailgate is one of the main reasons the 100 goes to the games.

I know i think its crazy i had to latch the car seat behind the passenger side. there is some sort of arm rest thing in the middle now. Its not like the old one that folds into the back of the seat; in the new lx it had a head rest attach to the arm rest; if that sounds wierd thats the only way i can describe it. What i also noticed it that actual arem rest did not have the fancy wood cover so i assume there is some sort of higher interior upgrade?? The lx was grey with grey interior
