Is the alternator the same for a 2000 LX and a 2000 LC? I am tracing a noise up front and I think it might be the alternator. At one point, I thought the LX came with a higher amp alternator, for some reason.

Also, what about the Mean Green ones. Any good?

Thanks!

Landcruisers look like they had two flavors of the alternator for '98 and '99 - one 12V 80A with part number 27069-50250 for production years 1998.01-1999.07, and the other one was 12V 100A 27060-50260 (replaced by 27060-50260-84) with same part number as LX with production years 1998.01-2002.08.

So for 2000s it should be the same part number 27060-50260 (replaced by 27060-50260-84). Looks like the LX had only this 100A alternator for 98-2002.

Now, for LCs and LXs, looks like 2002.08-2004.07 used a new alternator part number 27060-50330 replaced by 27060-50330-84 which was a 12V 130A.
Also for LCs and LXs, looks like 2004.07 through at least 2005.05 production dates used a different part number 27060-50360 replaced by 27060-50360-84 which was still a 12V 130A.

I did not look past 2005.

Hope that helps :-)

Wait... I thought all 2UZ alts were at least 130 amps

Nope - check for yourself on toyotapartszone and lexuspartsnow under engine section, the descriptions of the alternator state clearly the the voltage and amps and for LXs it was 100A until 2003 when it went to 130A.

I confirmed this in the listing of major technical specifications from TIS for each vehicle year of the LX - watts was 1200 (12V x 100A) until 2003 when it went up to 1560 (12V * 130A), and as I mentioned for LCs at least earlier versions had either 80A or 100A.

Crud. But that also makes me wonder, if my parents' '99 has an 80A alt, why does it seem so much more powerful than my 80?

their 99 may have a 100A. dont know what triggers it (ie what options etc) but some lc 98-99 have 80 and some have 100a. couldnt find an explanation why.

If it ain't broke don't fix it. If you think you need more amp output from your alternator then replace it with the higher output rating within your year. Mine came with an 80amp unit and when the bearings went south I upped to the 100amp version.

If you think you really need more amp output I'd opt to go to a 130/150amp Sequoia alternator before going Mean Green. You'll have to change the plug on the harness side though; they're available from Onur/beno. There's a thread in the 80's section about doing it.

Its a long story involving a welder but I had the 150amp waiting to install...then had to back down to the 100amp 100-Series on my '99 due to a compatibility issue with the avalanche type rectifier on the Sequoia unit as it related to the welder. So I actually didn't get it installed but I'm 99% sure it will work.

Having said all that the original 80amp unit did a great job of keeping 4 big batteries charged on my '99 and my trailer...and no problems with the 100amp unit either.

Would a 130A from an '03 LX/LC be plug n play for '98-'02 models?
Also, just curious why not go with mean grean? What's the down side?
Just curious about the welder compatibility issue - are you referring to an onboard welder?

I'm not sure if the '03+ alternators can be fitted to the '02- LC or not. I did have the Sequoia in hand though and it will physically mount. And IIRC the Sequoia alternator is a brand new alternator whereas the LC's are reman from Toyota; weird.

Opinons are all over the map for Mean Green. Biggest complaint I found, apart from some longevity issue complaints, is they run very hot.

Yes...on board welder.

Good Q. Trouble is they factory alts last long enough not many of us are in the market to replace 'em and find out. I would think the brackets would be the same, but is there perhaps a cabling difference?
