Helping a friend replace the rear transfer output seal discovered the #2 crossmember of his recently purchased 40 is boogered up and poorly repaired. Anyone have a parting out frame that would be willing to cut it out let me know. Jax, FL Thanks.
 
I have a '71 frame that I'll be removing the crossmember from soon. I have a new replacement part that welds in further back on the frame. I'm in northern New Mexico.
 
Weather's not cooperating - 6" of heavy wet snow this morning with more tonight and through the weekend.

What year is the 40? 9/72 the torque on the frame changed. This to clear the hand brake on the transfer case with the four speed.

Its a 72. Good 411 on the change, which I'm aware of. But my thought is the truck has been converted to a 4 speed and he should convert to the newer type... Basically the rear output seal on the TC was badly leaking, I was changing it for him, and realized the torsion tube would not allow the parking brake hub to come off due to PO going from a 3 spd to a 4 spd... So we cut it thinking we'll get a decent fabricator to make something or convert to the newer tube...
