This thread was the last piece to the puzzle.. I did have another thread with more detail...
So you are looking for a powersteering for a fj40...
The box u are talking about using mounts in a totally different location to what I did if the box has a rear facing steering arm.. I used a scout box due to the fact that it was a forward facing steering arm..

Now if it is a rear facing arm it will need to be mounted in front of the bib on the frame horn.. and u need to plate that section or buy a kit with a premade mounting plate that u can weld on to the frame.. then u have to cut into ur front cross member so the steering shaft can pass through ... me personally have never liked the idea of this type of conversion.. I have own a 55 with this style of conversion and it worked...

This is why I went with a forward facing arm so I didn't have to cut the cross member. .

Flaming River has some very nice steering hardware that works well with Scout boxes (also others). It's pricy but I got mine on sale and chose to spring for it. It's very purdy.

Found a saginaw pump with pulley and found a great article on quick ratio boxes on cars and trucks and years so will be going to a coue pf pock a parts spon

I'd recommend a 4+ turn box

In 40s at least, the handling gets scary with the quicker ratio boxes... you'll end up changing lanes if you sneeze. Also, if the assist fails, the steering is also much heavier.

Mark's Off Road has a good write up on the topic. He and others recommend the 4.25 turn boxes, and many with the quicker ratio boxes end up switching to the slower steering boxes. Although many with the quicker boxes report they get used to it, I only want to do the conversion once.

In my case, Scout II boxes are 4.25 in stock form, and that's what I decided to use. It has the benefits of full power-steering, and no need to cut through the front frame cross member. Also, given I'm running a SBC, I can easily get a matching Saginaw pump to work with it.

I always wanted a scout.. but up here .. not much around last one I looked at had extreme rust and bondo problems...

My advice is search the Web for what others have done for conversions for your year of scout...
