Well this is the last piece to my puzzle... need 18inches of 3/4DD steering shaft.. toyota shafts use the same stuff ... lordco quoted me like 50bones for 18inches.. and thats just way to much... seeing if anybody has any..

just waiting on a few extra parts that are coming out of boston and i will have my powersteering conversion done..

thanks for looking Ryan.. i think i might go over to the race car shop by my work and see if they have any off cuts that they wanna sell me for cheap..

stephen the piece i am lookin for is the one that slots in to tube that has nylon pins in it to make it collaspable so that way you dont impale yourself in an accident...
just a solid piece of steel with two flat spots all the way up each side... if you have something like that and is 18inches long that would be awesome...

well the race shop wanted $70 for 22inches of it so i said no thanks.. bit pricey..

so found a 22 inch piece on summit racing site for $13.99 but shipping was like $35
not winning any races here..

but i need a pulley from IPOR and also asked if they sell 3/4DD they said yes but still waiting on the price... pulley was $50 but saves me from trying to pull one out of the junkyard and hoping it will fit...
need to get rid of the skinny pulley and go for a wide one...

so if anyones interested i will be putting an order in to IPOR (Iron Pig Off Road)
here in the next couple days... share some of the shipping charges..

here is a pic of the pulley its not on there site but the still sell them....

havent tried seawings yet but i did get a package out of boston a couple days ago and shipping was only $7 through USPS...

well got my order a couple weeks ago and had the chance to finish it up besides getting new hoses made for the powersteering.. they are a bit long... and still need to get some belts to fit... but here is my scout power steering ...
last pic is the steering column coming out of the firewall that has a splined end on it attached to an old u joint... :D

Looking good :D

How much did the shaft and joints end up costing? How did you figure out a splined shaft for your steering column?

lets see... the joint and shaft at the fire wall side came out of a 2wd toyota truck $20
3/4 DD steering shaft from iron pig offroad.. $25
the joint from box to 3/4 dd was flaming river joint.. (pricey) $89
i would say that i am around almost $400 into it for the conversion

as for the column i took it apart which is like 3 or 4 screws after you cut the rag joint off and lucked out with some parts that i got off of the seapotatoe.. :hillbilly:

cool, glad some of that junk worked for you...

trucks looking good, you're putting some nice parts into it.

though you gotta watch out with that Dan Quayle spelling of potato ...:flipoff2:

ha ha... sorry about the misspell on the potato... cant always use the spell check..:hillbilly: you must be getting old if your checking out the spelling

as for parts trying to make it legal so that way i don't ever have to worry about a VI...

That's one of the reasons I'm still running manual steering... And also after 20 years of driving a 40 (12 years or so with 33x12.50s) it doesn't seem that hard to turn the wheel.:D

well i dont have to worry about manual steering anymore due to the fact that i know that my power steering will pass a VI with no problems...

what pump and gear box did you use?

Wow this was 5 years ago..

Scout 2 box and pump .. Picked it up used for about $100...
still need to add a power steering cooler and fix the jt outfitter bracket...

Don't have access to any old scout II's, but have a couple pick a parts places. Any idea of which 70's model cars/trucks would be best to find saginaw pump/gearbox?

Try these guys. They would have stuff already rebuilt, but they might be able to help you figure
out a source from scrap yards. You could try to find FJ60 ps boxes they are side frame mount.
