Thanks, Yeah i like how the seats are raised up higher but i'm going to end up taking a little bit of padding out of them to lower them down an inch or so, if you're 6' plus sitting in the back your head gets a little close to the edge around the sunroof and it isn't soft, one good bump would leave you with some pretty pissed off back seat passengers haha

Just got it insured and the reg paid, just needs to be smogged now but it's running a little rough, it should be at the meeting if i don't kill it running errands this afternoon

Bring 'er out to Hanford and we'll get it smogged!

Bring 'er out to Hanford and we'll get it smogged!
Are you sure about that? haha. It's going to take some work, it's not running well at all, hardly even enough to drive around town and started missing badly when i left the meeting tonight and more so on the way back. I'm going to have to go through everything and see what i can find

A late update

Finally rebuilt the carb, it's running better than ever (knock on wood). Once it's smogged it will be time for sliders, bumpers, spare carrier

Got some other things done, built myself a welding table

played around with the sand blaster and left my mark, i'm considering going all in on starting a small fabrication business

built a housing jig for welding trusses, still needs the jack, hardware and chain
housingjig.jpg

got contracted to finish these half doors for a friend

and just for fun tried to make a dirt board from old parts i had laying around

and more recently

picked up a new heart for this thing to be put in after I collect the rest of the parts i need for the swap

also started doing some work on one of the rear doors

I have, this stuff along with dealing with family medical problems and taking on more work from the real estate paper. Has kept me quite busy

Looking good bro... Might have some work for you?

What about fabing up a set of bumpers for my 07" Taco?
Front will/want to be modular, and rear will have spare tire/hilift carrier.
But you need to incorperate your emblem into the metal, and of course put out some cool window decals.

finally got my bender set up, built a stand for it and the air over hydro ram

Okay, when can I come help with the engine swap and you can do my 4X4 Labs rear bumper and fabricate some sliders? LOL

the motor swap won't be for a bit, i still need to find a manual v6 trans, and matching harness and computer, and all the emissions stuff. Before i start on even looking for any of that i need to get my truck to pass smog, I failed 2 times this week...have the EGR pulled off and getting it cleaned up :bang:

What's failing, the EGR functional test, NOX?

Over max on HC and NO, i've got a rough idle and intermittent miss, and it's running rich it seems

Probably running lean, if anything. Lean or hot can cause NOX, and a misfire (may be caused by lean mixture) would increase HC. Have you checked all the basics; compression, valve adjustment, timing, spark plugs, etc?

Valves, timing and plugs are good, haven't checked compression. Has new plugs, wires, and cap. Just rebuilt the carb using a baseplate that still has the plugs in so it's a factory settings for air/fuel mixture.

Here are my numbers from the two tests:

HC NO
Max Meas Max Meas
146 140 795 1025 15mph
118 126 855 889 25mph

The second test we replaced all vac. lines and figured out the EGR wasn't getting any vac. at all so wasn't even given a chance to function

HC NO
Max Meas Max Meas
146 188 795 848 15mph
118 141 855 786 25mph

After this test we messed with the EGR again just in the driveway, the smog tech mentioned that it seemed like it was missing and the exhaust does more of a pop pop pop instead of a more steady flow. By un plugging the EGR completely we were able to get it to even out and seem to run a bit smoother. So that is where I am at now, cleaned up the valve and going to throw it back on and see if it makes any difference. Any advice would help a ton as this smog tuning stuff has never been one of my strong suits

Yeah, there was another thread I was looking at, I think on Marlin's forum, where someone was having EGR issues. If you disconnect the EGR valve and it smooths out, that indicates there is an issue with the vacuum/control side of the system. Cleaning the valve would only help if the valve itself is stuck open or the passages are plugged.

So, the thing to do is make sure all the hoses are connected correctly, then test the Back Pressure Modulator Valve according to the FSM. My Cruiser had the BPMV sticking when it warmed up, causing a rough idle. If you need some hands-on help, let me know, I may be able to swing by on Saturday.

The valve seemed like it was sticking a bit, an was pretty gunked up inside so cleaning was needed regardless, but i'll definitely check the vacuum actuator attached to it as well. Do you think that just the EGR alone could make my numbers look like they do and that is the only thing? or is there other things making the numbers what they are

Those numbers you got could be caused by more than one issue. This happens fairly often, making smog repairs some of the most difficult and frustrating ones. Fixing a known issue, then rechecking, is usually the required method.

Specifically, it looks like the EGR was not working during the first test, then working at least a little bit during the second. The NO numbers dropped a little, but HC went up, possibly because the EGR started causing a misfire.

We used to look at HC as being caused by lean mixtures, misfires, or other ignition issues--this was with the "Two-Speed Idle" test. Now with loaded mode testing, HC is said to be caused by richer mixtures, but the mixture is usually leaner than what would cause high CO, and the other ignition system factors still apply. So, it's kind of an in-between type failure.

Hope that's not too much tech-speak and can get you moving in the right direction. Like I said, if you need me to take a look at it Saturday, I should be available at some point.

How many times is someone usually allowed to test? I think i've done up to 4 before, but having to run it so many times is a real pain. I put the cleaned up EGR back on and will have to fire it and see if the missing goes away. I'll be out of town this weekend unfortunately so I won't be around to work on it. I'll probably pick your brain some more next week when i'm able to get back to work on it

I don't recall a limit on number of tests. You just keep trying until it passes.

I may have a little time Wed. afternoon, PM me if you want to set something up.
