I believe that all 105s were NA 1HZ powered.

Hmmm, that might be true. I could have sworn the 1HD-FTE was available in the 105 until the V8 came out in Oz, and in South Africa (where it was known as the 100 GXL I think?).

Oh well, just slap a MTQ turbo/intercooler on it and call it a day!

Forgot to say that the 105 was also available with the petrol 1FZ. Umm... you can buy the HDJ100 with the 1HD-FTE but also comes with IFS. :)

You can buy the HDJ78 and get the best of both worlds...diesel w/ turbo and live front axle! As far as I know, the 105 only comes as the FZJ105 or HZJ105, and the HZJ is a turkey in terms of acceleration but great for reliability. The NATO-spec 105's run aspirated (ie, 1HZ) diesels. I guess they figure the forced induction would only cause more trouble (probably true). Besides, you're not in a rush when travelling offroad in those places, unless someone's trying to kill/rob you. And if so, you're better off with a few kalishnokovs and RPG's over 100 more horsepower. This is also a good reason to have at least one other vehicle travelling with you. You're less of a sitting duck out there! Back in the pioneer days, the covered wagon would gather and park in a circle for maximum protection against attacks while at camp.
