But if you're picking me up Tuesday evening, aren't we driving straight through? That'll get us there before sun-up Wednesday I think.

It is about 14 hours Driving time from Memphis , 15+ with a stop to eat, fuel ect. If I picked you up at say 9 PM we would arive about noon Wed. set up rest and socialize, I have friends from TX that will be there Wed. afternoon. Remember I have to drive about 4 hours before I pick you up.

S

Seems like good idea would be to leave Tusesday the 13th...drive partially out stop and then drive partially the next day...arrive on 14 March... Coming home depart Sunday Morning drive partial and stop or drive straight back.....I'm inclinded to stop and drive teh last leg hom on Monday the 19th.

What is the expectation for trail riding.... All day Thur-Fri-Sat and Sunday or what? I'll go back and look at the web link above...just wondering what ohters who have been think is reality or workable? Web site says three days of wheeling So Im trying to figure out where they have their agenda... Ok...so here Katemcy Rocks ... Rock Crawling Texas Style riding happens Thur-Sat.

Seems like you would want some down time on Wed to setup camp, screw around, maybe acquire some food or whatever else, take it easy.. get situated and be able to get a feel for the place before dark?

Roger....are you wanting to drive straight through on the evening of the 13th?

Normally wheel Thurs, Friday and Saturday. This is park wheeling, you are camped at the trail head, so normally come back to camp for lunch ( if we get going before noon).
If I pick up Steve I will be going I-40, you I assume will go I-20 so we will not be running together, If Todd gets his wagon done and if he goes he might meet up with you.

Google Maps

looking at google maps the shortest way (time wise) is for me to cut over to Memphis...then on to 40 to Little ROck and then head south from there. Only some 15min disadvantage by heading across on I-20 so really does not matter to me. Obviously I would take different route to and from Memphis...(by the way I hate driving through Memphis....the road signs kill me :) or lack of).

Google shows 15hours pure drive time from where I live, not counting breaks for fuel/meals.

I do want to partner up headed that way.... let me know what you guys finally decide on your schedule. Is Andy in?

Ok well maybe we can work it out to drive over together or if not I'm going to see what the guys are planning from MS and maybe GA. Since I run by myself ...I would like to convoy over with someone jsut in case *#$% happens. I know its early to nail down times and all of that.

If the pavement ride does not play out...I would like to camp next to yall...so I'm with or around people I know or maybe even ride with yall depeding on trail conditions depeding on who has free seat etc. I would like to "hang" with the guys I know ..etc. I'll have to go back and surf through teh web site...to see how they do their camping.. etc.

Gotcha. I was under the impression you'd be leaving your area Tuesday morning and be through Memphis just around/after lunchtime; now it makes a bit more sense.

I can get by taking the extra day off for departure, but I really can't take Monday. I HAVE to be back for work Monday morning.

Also Roger, I just want to be sure you know where I stand in that if we don't have a four-truck load to split the gas, I won't be able to afford the two-way split. In this case, I'd have to drive my own rig simply for monetary reasons.

So you're just convoying with us, not in on the hauler?

Also, my vote, and part of the reason I want to jump in on the multi-hauler, is so we don't have to stop overnight anywhere. I'm fine with pulling over at a truck stop for a while if needs be, but I'd rather rotate napping and driving to avoid the extra hotel costs (again, one of the big reasons I want to do the group haul). As stated earlier, we can utilize the extra time Wednesday to catch up on rest if we need to.

Yes...as of right now...I plan on driving myself/towing my crap. Was not sure who was in on the car hauler or what trailer was the final say. I know that depends on who is going.

I think Roger said he could haul his 40 and one more on the trailer with the camper....? And or ...that he might take the other trailer (large car hauler) if there were others interested, which I assueme the large trailer carries rogers truck plus 3 more, not sure if size dependent?

Which trailer may be undecided for a while yet. As I said, I can't go in on it unless it's a full load. That's primarily for money reasons but also because I don't want to have to drive without someone else to chat with. If it's just going to be me and Roger, one will always be asleep and that's no good for me as I'd get sleepy too without something to keep my brain busy (talking). I can drive my tow rig for free but the drive would probably take me 24 hours or better. I'm saying I'm in right now for the 4car hauler deal only - betting that someone will eventually speak for the other two spots. Elbert, if you want to tentatively speak for a spot too, that'll leave only one open spot; I'm sure we could convince someone (Andy?) to fill that and then we'd be set.

You could meet Roger at 40, which I think is a pretty short drive for you. I hope to do the same - meet somewhere on 40 outside of Memphis to transfer gear and truck.

Just throwing this out there...If I were to go on the large car hauler...I would most likely meet Roger in Manchester....and load up there. Driving the 60 any real distance on the pavement is not a goal of mine. So if this were to play out that way I would trailer the truck to a mutal departure point... I don't have a secure spot to leave the truck in Memphis area..( long shot on finding one without jumping through many time killers etc, My brother lives in Olive Branch but no real parking at his place. )

Maybe some other folks will chip in on the large trailer deal. I don't know who else in the club is a maybe on this trip, it would seem that if so the large trailer deal would potentially be a good deal). I have a commerical drivers license too.

Anyway maybe some others will come out of the woodwork and chime in on their intent.

I asked what some of the MS guys were doing...looks like they may leave early Wed AM of that week. As it stands now...I'm driving myself...interested in seeing what turns out here. I'm for sure wanting to go over with a few guys from the STLCA "team"...

Anyone else a maybe on convoying over? Or working a deal with Roger on taking the big trailer?

Loading up at his place would probably be preferable anyway. But, seeing as I assume you have base decals, you could park at my base up in Millington or at my house in Braden/Mason (exit 35). From the base it'd be about a 20 minute highway ride back to 40 unless Roger wanted to do that side trip (all highway) in the hauler. From my house it'd be about 20 minutes to 40, all low-speed back roads.

Let me try to answer some of the questions.
I don't do motels, rest areas, walmart parking lots or truck stops.
I can load anywhere as long as you have the correct straps including axle straps if needed for your truck.
I try not to get off the main roads, I believe Steve has a better feel than most as to where I can manuver, thougt the 4 car is longer and harder to manuver than his trailer, it is a 62 ft tri axle with the axles way back.

The 4 car needs some time in the shop before it is ready to go, the Alaskan Highway took its toll. I have a lot on my plate right now including a wife that just started Chemo, so unless we have a commitment from people I am not going to fix the trailer right now. This is most likely the only long trip I will be able to take this year.

Roger,

Ok thanks for the info. Sorry to hear about your family situation.

We'll see see how things play out.. on the trip business. I'm somewhat flexible but I would like to avoid driving all night, I understand that others may prefer that for time or scheulde reasons. I know the long trailers make navigation a pain.

Elbert

im out. i wish i could but its not going to happen.

Damnit Andy!! Now its looking harder for me. You were the main one I was hoping to join on the trailer gang. I'll still make it, but with the possibility of not getting 4 trucks plus the trailer needing some TLC, that may force me to drive myself both ways. :( that'll suck.

Sorry Bro its just not in the cards for this year.

Late to the party as usual! I'm in, so taking the 4 car is possible. I'll be loading at Roger's and either riding in Little Red, or schedule dependent, flying to Austin/Dallas and catching a ride to the event.

Roger, I'm available any weekend except 17/18 and March 9/10 to work on the trailer. Could even pull a couple of days off during the week if it'll be better with the chemo schedule.

Guys I'm still planning on going but I can't work the 4 car trailer business. Some of you know I have sleep apnea and that requires I use a CPAP machine at night (sleeping)...big pain in the ass. You may have noticed the generator at the recent couple of camp outs.

So as I was relating to Steve via PM.. It may be that I tag along with you guys (convoy)... for a while and then I will just get a motel room, and meet up with you there at the site the next day. IF as discussed you guys leave out Tuesday and drive nonstop.

The CPAP business would annoy the others in the truck if I went in on that and most likely I would be the only one sleeping.

I'll request leave (vacation) off from work this week and hopefully that will be approved without issue.

Elbert & Roger, do both of you have CB's in your tow rigs?

Roger, how does sleeping work in your tow rig? Full reclining captain's chairs or partial or no recline; small flat area to lie down??? And how many seats are there - 2,4, other?

Also Roger, as I alluded to in the PM, I'm down to lend a hand on the trailer repair if I can get over there. If you want to attempt to schedule something when chattfj40 and I can make it, let me know and I'll see what I can work out.

Can't wait for this trip; thinking its gonna be better than GSMTR.

I have a CB that I rig up for the pickup ....so yes on the CB. OF course we have cell phones too. I have two walki-talkies of the FRS/GMRS type also

Roger I don't know your plans but if you need help on the car hauler trailer... I don't mind chipping in. I could be there one day (Fri-Sat-Sun) to help you guys if needed.

I have CB in truck, passenger seat is air ride and does recline. Rear bench seat folds down flat to make bed and I put the same mattress that I use in my wagon on it, so I have room for driver and two passengers. I need to get the wagon back together and out of the shop before I can pull the trailer through to work on it.
The trailer needs one new tire and we will have to take 3 tires off my gooseneck and mount as spares. the other work is repairing spare mount and fixing/reinforcing a few places the frame cracked. Two people in a day should be able to all the work unless we find issues.

Roger....well let me know if you come up with a work day and need some help... based on recent email traffic I may have to work this Friday. Anyway just post up here or send me a PM and I should know within a day or two if I'm able to show. I'm on somewhat of a short notice at work...as things develop I may or may not have to be involved and so I don't get much advance notice.

My best chance to come help would be the weekend of the S4WDA meet/ride. I may be able to get that Friday or Monday off to have a whole day to work at the shop so as not to interfere with the meeting and riding.

Who knows the facts on the ground ( I sent an email to one of the POCs at the TX camp).

My question...

What facilities are available for those who camp on the ground (tent camp) in regard to showers, bathroom etc?

If anyone knows please post up... I did go look at the site but I'm of the impression that some of the facilities may be only for those who use the bunkhouse/cablins?

If the park POC answers my email I'll post up the answer.
