Up early this morning so I decided to be a good husband and fill up our small fleet of cars. Grabbing all the keys I struck out for the gas station with coffee in hand.

After filling up the LX I grabbed the wad of keys in the cup holder and accidentally grabbed the key to my wife's GX. It only went in part way and I certainly didn't force it. Realizing my mistake I switched to the LX key and it slid right in but wouldn't turn. AT ALL. :bang:

Taking another sip of coffee I realized that it was 4:30AM and I was a few miles from home. Waking up my wife was a terrible idea so I started googling. The lexus forum and mud had me performing a series of door unlocks, alarm settings, disconnect the battery for 60 seconds and so on. Unfortunately, none of that did a damn thing to make the key turn.

After searching around it became apparent that locking out the ignition was a theft deterrent and the workaround was pretty simple. This youtube video got me home.

Not having any tools on hand I found myself alone in Walmart buying a flat head screwdriver. Slide it in the ignition and give it a quick bump with your palm. Slide in the correct key and voila, fixed.

I hope this fix helps someone who finds themselves stranded from this 1st world problem.

Thanks .....Saved me a bunch of $$$$$$$. Key fob broke in the ignition and after the metal key was removed, I used this procedure to reset the tumbler. Inserted my spare key and it started!
