I want to throw a shoutout to Toyota Alexandria service department. I've been chasing down some electrical problems and the service advisor and tech have been absolutely fantastic to work with. The tech has been walking me though everything he's diagnosed so far and said he wants to find the problem as much as I do. They're going to have the truck for the next week as they try to diag the problem.

If you're booking service at Alexandria Toyota, make sure you book an appointment with Simpy and you'll get her tech Chip.

Glad you had a good experience! I needed a wheel speed sensor replaced in a hurry and showed up without an appointment. The service advisor took my truck for a few hours before telling me with a straight face that my truck was "too big for their lift." She then gave me the contact info of her "friend" in Maryland, who would be happy to work on my truck. The whole situation was sketchy, and disappointing.

Side story - I then went to Greg's Automotive, where they dented the fender of the truck while replacing the sensor (maybe the truck was too big for their lift? haha) and when I pointed it out, the owner said "why don't you just leave it? It's an old truck" before his son finally, after much back-and-forth, agreed to pay for PDR.

I'm glad I haven't had an experience like that yet. Sorry that your fender got dented at the other shop.

They haven't had to put it on a lift yet, so maybe their lifts aren't large enough for our trucks? Which would be weird...
 
Seems like at least one other Landcruiser owner already got the memo, based on this scene after I was handed my keys back, but thought I should clue the rest of you in, as well:

I can highly recommend Radial Tire Company in Silver Spring, MD. After I bent my steering knuckle, I drove on my spare for a bit before I could replace the knuckle. This caused a funky wear pattern on an otherwise brand new tire. Radial Tire Co. appears to be one of very, very few shops that still do tire shaving, which corrects uneven tread wear and matches tread depths across multiple tires.

They did same day shaving, balancing, and alignment. They were insanely busy, and in the future I plan to make an appointment, but I was fine with the wait. They have a clean bathroom, free wifi, free coffee, and comfortable chairs. I ordered myself some doordash, hung out with their shop dog, and watched while they dealt with the pandemonium that comes with being a very popular business.

The alignment was spot on (and they had to do a LOT of adjustment), the tires are shaved and balanced just right...and yet the tech wouldn't accept a tip from me. In fact, they ended up giving me a surprise (and generous) discount due to the amount of time I had to wait - which again I was perfectly happy to do and not complaining about. My experience showed that they actually care about the customer experience and also do quality work, including the now ultra-rare work of tire shaving. I recommend.
 
Does anyone have a recommendation for a boat detailer? We took the S22 down the Smith Mountain Lake this weekend and I'd like to get it detailed and polished before I put it away for the season.

Hey all, anyone in the area will inform to let me rent or borrow a CV axle seal driver tool? I thought I had ordered one when I ordered the rest of my parts from Cruiser Patch, but I guess I didn’t. I have the car up on the jack and need to get it done asap. I have a work trip next week and my dumbass told my job I would drive up and they could reimburse my mileage instead of doing a flight or train. I can see if they’ll be able to change my mode of transportation last minute, but I thought I would ask the community first. If I can’t find one, I’ll buy it, but I doubt it would get here in time.
 
this look awesome. im having trouble with an unnamed major chain getting mine done on my 100. was this all new moldings and trim and if so did they source them? what was the total cost (if youre comfortable)

Windshield city knows how to do land cruiser windshield, unlike Safelite

They've been around for a long time you can call and get a quote on factory or aftermarket windshield

I did aftermarket glass but factory everything else. All new moldings. I just paid my deductible so not sure what the actual cost was.
 
If you go aftermarket, ask them to get you Pilkington if it's available. He doesn't mind if you bring him the OEM rubber or he can get it for you. Right now would be a good time to order it from a SET dealer.
 
Just ordered a OE gasket, call to Windshield city is next.

I was planning on just paying out of pocket. Otherwise my ins co has a $500 deductible for windshields; which I suspect might basically be a wash. But I have no idea what the cost for a windshield + labor + supplies will look like. I just know I don't want to use Safelite (my ins co preferred or maybe required vendor)
 
Likely a wash. The last few windshields I've had done were all under $500 using aftermarket parts to be replaced (windshield parts cost on my LS430 was ~$230).

My insurance wont do OEM glass unless there's no other option. Rear drivers window on my LS got hit at the same time as my windshield and was ~$1000 to my insurance. No aftermarket double pane available but luckily I have a $50 glass deductible
 
Considering getting my instrument cluster rebuilt - I would want all the stepper motors replaced and the digital odometer reprogrammed.

Seems like Nationwide Instrument Cluster & Speedometer Repair - https://instrumentclusters.com/ is based out of Richmond, but has anyone gotten something similar done closer to the DC area? Would like to avoid a) having to ship the cluster and wait an unknown amount of time before getting it back, b) buying a replacement cluster, getting that one rebuilt, then selling the old one.
 
Anyone have recommendations for an upholstery shop in the NoVA area? Looking to get my steering wheel redone because it has started peeling
