Hey everyone,

I accidentally bought windscreen wiper arms for a 75/78/79/Troopy, thinking they’d fit my LJ78 (as the website had it listed that way & I didn't look at my arms before buying).

I compared them to my original LJ78 arms and, while they’d need a different blade/assembly, they’re only slightly longer. The end shape is different, though, so I’m not sure if they’d cause issues or put extra load on the wiper motor- leading it to fail?

Has anyone tried this setup before, or should I just return them?

Thanks!

New setup is better! Ditch the old style!

On another note, I assume you fixed your “limp mode” issue if you have moved on to wiper arms?

Unfortunately no, not yet... Still working my way through things, which has led me to replacing some other elements along the way. These wipers had just happened to rock up midway through haha.

Also realised my diesel pump seems to be leaking o_O not sure if I'm better buying one of those gasket kits for them or just replacing the whole pump... About $1,400 difference in price though haha.

I figured it'd be a smarter move to just use the newer arms, just didn't wanna break the motor as they sit a lot firmer on the glass due to the angle difference.

Look online for a diesel repair shop. They should be able to point you in the direction or be able to rebuild the Injection pump themselves. If done correctly you should get another 30 years out of that pump. Probably cost you $600-900 dollars for a complete rebuild. That leaking pump, could also be the source of your intermittent power issue.

Look on the bright side, Now you get to replace your timing belt too! Get about 3 - 4 feet of 3/8 drive extensions to reach the injection pump bolts. Not hard to remove or install the pump or timing belt. Let the pros rebuild your pump.

The new pumps you see for that price are probably Chinese. I can't, and never will speak from experience of using one, but I wouldn't touch one. As with the starter and alternator, get the originals rebuilt (when necessary) as the new stuff on the market these days is inferior.

A slow leak from the pump is not an urgent matter and not indicative of any fault in the pump, other than hardened old O-rings.

bro what is the length of the new assembly? i have a similar issue cant find the blade for this straight weird looking assembly of my lj79

Mine are on the way out. Do you have a part number for the arms?

@LJRay , try 85221-60100 for the clip style arm.

On another note, you in Southern NV? Ain’t seen you driving around if so. I’ll keep an eye out for you.

…that’s coz i’m in the cool, cool part of Nevada, up north in Reno!

…not sure the 2L-T would make it all that way to the hot desert…but if you’re heading up sometime…
