LJ78 Hockey puck lift?

Hey all,

I remember from my youth reading in 4x4 mags about hockey-puck body lifts. Is this still done at all? I'm interesting in lifting my LJ78 by 1" or so when I move to larger tires, and the hockey-puck lift seems like a pretty cheap way to do so. Being a JDM, there are no domestically available lift kits.

Any thoughts?

Thats old school. These days you can buy spacers made from a similar material as the the suspension bushes.
Im sure whatever they use on Hilux ,Lnandcruiser will be similar to your 78.
Your whole vehicle will be riding on these 8 spacers so it is advisable to use the right material

Hockey puks are as rare as hens teeth in oz so I think they used cut up old conveyor belt rubber which is what the tray on my 75 series sits on currently

Hey, what's wrong with old school.....I say hockey pucks will out last anything and almost free. A real Canadian mod.

i have doen the "hockey puck " lift in the past, i wouldn't recommend it now, if you ever got in an accident and the insurance inspector saw the pucks you might have a legal battle on your hands.

yes, they seem to last a long time but they are not designed for this application...

<would i do it to one of my own trucks? yes. but i know the results of my actions and are willing to live with the consequences>

Hello Robin,

I belive hocky puck lifts are illegal.
And you probably don't want to give the CVSE a reason to write you a ticket.
Personally I would fab proper spacers. It can be done easly.
You could use 1" tubing and cut it into 1" sections and use those.

unless the lift kit is dot approved it's illegal anyway.....
