I had my 06 (142,000 miles) acting funny on me on my way to HIHs (40 miles north of Ouray, around 7k feet) couple weeks ago and then again on my way home at the entrance to Grand Canyon park!
Very hot temps, very long drive, heavy loaded, high altitude, didn't matter fuel level ( about half to 3/4 tank both times).
Both instances there were no signs of any problem, I made a stop for other reasons then get back in and won't start. Clicks and try to turn but sounds like you have no fuel, it even started once or twice but only to die after couple seconds!
Had to sit there and wait to vent the fuel cap for some time. At the Grand Canyon as I first opened the cap, fuel came bubbling up kind of loud about to gush out and I put it back quick! Waited some time and vented slowly.
I did notice when it happened near Ouray, after I got it running again it was going but felt weak and lean. My main battery also went down, I had to jump it from the second and looks like still low. I finished getting to camp and it would not start again until it was cool and vented hours later.
Runs just fine now that I'm back at ocean level and between 60s to 80s degrees. Funny thing is it never happened wile living in Denver at 5000 feet! Again my commute was so short I rarely filled up the tank other than for a trip.
I remember first seeing this sort of thing with other trucks around me at the previous 2 times I attended HIHs.
These 2 occasions (few weeks ago) were the only times it has happened to mine.
I'm thinking I'll keep a spare fuel pump, filter and coil packs in the box just as precaution.
