Superb work. I really like the encorporation of the subs w/o much lose of room in the cargo drawers!

More Line-X!!!!!

Thanks for the compliments..... In time I intend to make a few more of these as production models. All of the measurements/design are stored on a cabinetmaker friend's computer ready to be used on a computer controlled routing/cnc table. Not sure of the proper name for the tool..... But it was sweet when he still had it. He kept the software so we did all of our designing with it... saved alot of trial and error. If he ever gets the machine back we will do one to see if we can produce these as kits. Time will tell.....

Can't believe I'm about to say this, but dude you got a nice box.

Do you get any unwanted rattle from the subs? Anywhere in the box or the content of the the drawers?

A little.... wood on wood vibrations where the panels meet. A little weather stripping did the trick. No rattling inside the drawers.... yet. Though I try to pack them in a way were things are snug.

UPDATE.......

Door panels are 99% done. All mounted up.... wired up..... tuned up!! They sound killer!!! And I barely even feel them at my shin. Now I just need to finalize what paint I am going to use.... But either color matched or close to it...... the entire panel and speaker grills will be painted.... the dark grey Line-X is an eyesore against the tan interior... but that is the color loaded into the guy's machine and I wanted them done NOW.... besides.... I had always intended on painting them to match the factory door panel. One other little detail you'll notice.... I am slowly replacing all dome/door lights with LED. I want to be able to run them for long periods of time at night with out draining the batts.... So adhesive backed LED strips are applied just underneath the new panel and are powered by the factory wire harness.....

Here are the pics......

The door panels look great. How's the imaging? After looking at the kick panel spacing, I've decided to build door panels instead. You've given me some great ideas. Great job!

Wow ChefFJ, excellent work...I'm about 90 mins from Lodi...a quick trip should you go ahead with a "kit" for the drawer system.

Steve

Good to know.... we are both excited about the possibility. Just need to get that machine table back....

What speakers are you running?

Boston Pro Series 6.53 front.... Boston Pro 6.5 in rear..... JL 8W3 subs

Not as good as in the kicks... but pretty good. Audibly they feel a lil close. But with some fine tuning in the Zapco SXSL EQ I tuned them pretty close to my liking. Needed to raise the gain a tad on the rear channel to better balance the rear fill... even the fader wasn't enough the compensate for how close the mids/highs are compared to the rear channels.

I am half tempted to pull the rear speakers from the doors completely. Maybe build a panel with cupholders to replace the speaker holes. Then make pods to mount in the far back, up high. Right where the 3rd row seat belts bolt next to the sliding windows. This could provide better rear fill and maybe a way to get better sound out the back of the truck when at camp.

Could you spec the hardware for us. I would love to copy. My ghetto setup has to go...

 That is awesome work on the speaker pods. I like that a lot! If you look at this post about the LR Disco cup holder ERG80 got Rustoleum Bronze Textured and it is just about right on the money :grinpimp: There is a good picture in the first post. I think he said he got it from Wal-Mart.

If you ever put your cargo system in to production I would definatly be interested!

Love the speaker pods. If you put them into production, sign me up!

I really like your speaker pods. Good job!

I really wanted something that looked more like yours when I made mine. But I wasn´t sure how to. Mine look quite silly next to yours.

Do you have any pics during the fiberglass work and design? Did you use the original pocket on the door panel or is this built from scratch?

Any build pics or plans of the pods? Might have to upgrade mine (again).

Sorry it has been so long since any updates.... No good excuse, just busy at home and working on other cruiser projects. Thanks go out to JRob80!! That Rustoleum info was as close to perfect as I'll ever find!! Home Depot stocks the color.... One can did both pods.... an extra can is being kept on hand for touch ups down the road. Thanks again!!

Pods were entirely one-off. I don't have the skills/time to learn the mold making process. Sorry. Frankly this was the first time doing work like this... more or less learned as I went. Besides, these pods were made specific to these speakers. I could never justify buying speakers like these again at $800 or so for the set, I've carried these from vehicle to the next for the past 10 years.

Any update on this? I really need to get something put together and I really like your drawer system that you have.

No real updates. Still works great. No rattles have shown up, slides are still smooth even with the drawers packed tight, may be slightly less useful for the odds and ends normally thrown in back. Carpeted surface prevented things from sliding all over, Line-X encourages it.... Guess a custom cut carpet pad may be in the future.

As far as making more of them.... Time is quite tight for a while. A promotion at work to Executive Chef has been both a blessing and a drain. I love the responsibility and wage changes but I have so little free time at home anymore due to increased hours. I am still reserved in my hopes that the owner of the shop that I built this in will take on making more of them "for" me instead of with me. He isn't the best at sticking to deadlines and projects are always pushed back over and over. So unless I am in the shop doing 90% of the work they would probably never get done. So until my job status changes I doubt I'll have time to make more.

For those asking for measurements.... I will gladly share them when I get a print out from the cabinet maker that helped me with them. My hand written notes don't have any of the adjustments that we made during the build.

Thanks again for all the feedback.....

Thanks!! They were a helluva project to learn fiberglass techniques on!!
Didn't have the camera around during most of the build process due to the messy nature of every step. Between fiberglass fibers, super sticky resins, bondo dust, etc I was constantly afraid to ruin the camera with transfer. Should have had someone with clean hands taking pix as I went.

Yes, I integrated the factory pocket into the panel. Seemed to be the easiest way to maintain a natural shape that fit the look of the door. It is now buried in layers of fiberglass, resin, and Line-X.

Glad I could help! measurements would be great, like I said before I love your storage system and need to come up with something and adding the subs is exactly what I need.
