What does the shackle do? And does different lengths matter?

Now you've got me worried.

The shackle provides the spring a means to allow it to flatten and otherwise move around as the suspension is flexed. It is located opposite the fixed end of the spring. A longer shackle will provide a little more lift, but can detrimentally affect the rotation of the axle in question. Typically the lift is approximately 1/2 the change in height of the shackle (i.e. a +1" shackle will lift the axle ~1/2").

Based on the questions you are asking, I'm thinking that a suspension swap might be a bit of a stretch at this time in your "wrenching career".

I wouldnt go so far and say thats its a stretch. I just dont know much about 4x4's. But me and my buddies could install one. Between all of us I'm positive we could. Only hitch would be time, and tools.:D

Would a basic heavy lift work just fine for my truck or should I go with the deluxe?

Thanks

-Carl

I am getting ready to buy the heavy deluxe kit from maf for my 60. Its the most complete kit I have found for the price. I have looked at buying different pieces form places but it always comes out higher than their kit.

I see, but would a basic kit suffice? Or would the deluxe be better?

-Carl

a basic kit would do. I just like being able to have greasable pins and shackles.

Alright sounds good. That being said I'll go with an OME heavy

Thanks guys

Going to be ordering an OME basic heavy kit for my 62 this week. Anything else I'll need to get before install?

Thanks

i just finished mine and i have only drove it a few miles but i love it. I will post some pictures. oh and get a shipping quote. I didn't think and had it shiped to my apartment. they ended up shipping it truck freight and i still had to go by the terminal to pick it up. so check and see what the cost is to pick it up at the terminal and to your house. you might save a few dollars going to pick it up
