Lexus LX470 Landcruiser suspension swap--- great results

I just got my LX470 back after the LandCruiser suspension conversion--what a difference it makes, highly recommended. I have ZERO regrets about swapping out the AHC--it rides like a new vehicle. I need to thank SLEE for putting the parts together at a reasonable price and for taking the call from my mechanic who wanted to make sure everything was done correct. SLEE took the time to walk him through a few things, so thank you. Also, thank you to the guys on this board, your feedback was invaluable. Thank you all.
Who did the work for you? I’m having trouble finding someone to do mine

"It's nothing special"

LOL

It's incredibly special and has many more "conveniences" than you suggest here.

You'd be looking at a bit more than $800 to actually convert it fully to LC suspension. The torsion bars run $500/piece. Just doing "shocks" and ripping the rest out is not a conversion. It's an insult to how these trucks should be set up.
$500 per? Yikes! You don’t shop around much, huh?

Heard of aftermarket? You can get T bars for about $350 a pair, plus the 300 for 4 brand new toyota shocks, and shipping. Yea that’s about $800 if not under.

Hell, the stage 2 Ironman lift kit is currently on sale for about $890 with the additional discount. Tell me again how that’s not a conversion though.

I'm not against aftermarket but if I were to get rid of AHC I would most likely want OEM torsion bars if I could somehow swing it. But I wouldn't be against aftermarket. I mean I personally wouldn't spend $500 per side.

Speaking of which, did the OP @unkltrp say if he used OEM parts or aftermarket?

Even Dobinsons are $440 for a pair, just for a price comparison to OEM.

I'm also debating whether to convert my LX. I'm getting only 4 lines of separation on the globe test and it doesn't ride very well. I was going to buy some new globes from Impex but at the checkout, the verbiage for shipping stated that they can't ship anything explosive. That includes gas shocks, etc. It also said that if you purchase and it gets turned away at customs, your loss, they will not do a refund. So I went to Amayama and ordered them. Just got an email today that they cannot fulfill my order because "Japanese customs prohibits dangerous items and are not able to be in any form without an MSDS document which the manufacturer has refused to supply to them". Problems, problems...

I think we talked in another forum about these? Impex WILL deliver them, I got 4 new ones and installed them. Did a full flush, and all numbers dialed in. I’m thinking now that there is a problem in the actual shocks. Thing rides like a wooden wagon. Would have been better off throwing the $600 at an Ironman kit

Did you do the accumulator test and verify your pressure readings? I'll spend the money if I know I've got a long term fix but with all the Chinese s*** knockoffs, who knows what we're getting. I'm not a fan of sending China any more of my money than necessary, especially when they're ripping off legit companies and sending out crap.

Got to be air in your system.
The front shocks on mine were supposedly replaced and my height control functions but I only get 4 bars/notches from low to high. The ride is not what I expected it to be. Looks like fresh fluid in the resevoir but I haven't crawled underneath for a look at the shocks. You've got me wondering if I shouldn't try a little bleeding to make sure the shop didn't get some air in mine...

You only get 4 graduations between high and low AFTER replacing the globes or just the shocks.

If you haven’t replaced the globes, you absolutely should. I had 6-7 graduations when I replaced mine. New globes made a big difference and I now get about 14 graduations between high and low.

In case you didn’t know, shocks and globes are not the same. Shocks almost never need to be replaced on AHC, as they are not actually shocks but hydraulic rams. The globes do the shock absorption.

I am aware of the system functions. The previous owner replaced the shocks/rams, I assume they were leaking. Upon my purchase, I didn't feel the ride was as it should be so I did the accumulator test. So yes, the accumulators need to be changed. It's just a matter of getting a set that are genuine and not Chinese knockoffs. That seems to be harder than it should be unless you're willing to pay the huge markup from a local T dealer. Another member is awaiting his new accumulators from Impex. I'm not sure when he plans to install them providing they show up but I'd love to hear the results.

If I go Ironman, I’ll sell you mine for $500. They’ve only got about 250 miles on them since installed in January. I’ve got the order receipt from impex as well

I have some interest with that offer. My concern is that you wound up with knockoffs and that's why your ride isn't what it should be. What were your numbers when you did the accumulator test before and after the new globes?

Not knockoffs coming from impex. I’ll check find the numbers for after, wrote them down somewhere. Going to bleed it one more time when I replace some bushings and see if that changes anything. Lots of rust on my truck though, and it’s likely only a matter of time before a hard hose corrodes. That’s part of the reason that I’m leaning Ironman.

Don't know how you wound up with a rusty one in TX. My 99's from TX and pretty clean. Keep me posted, I'm going to look at a LC tomorrow - from TX coincidentally. Undercarriage pics look good - no AHC to worry about.

I have an 03 LC from a one owner out of Dallas. Perfect truck. Grabbed the 03 LX from an auction out of Jersey. That’s why it’s got rust

Jersey, I feel your pain. It's a crap shoot when you but at auction. Plus the buyers fee, shipping, etc. Some sellers are more forthcoming than others.
