Phil,
Your welcome anytime... but Im not in AZ right now.. I hoping to return in July. Ill let you know when Im heading back... Are you in Scottsdale or Tucson?

This is such an awesome build. I can't wait to see it when its finished. You are quite the craftsman.

Hello I own an 89 4runner and I'm wanting to do a similar build as this with a chinook camper. I'm in the research phase and will take all the advice I can gather. So any suggestions on how to build the perch the camper sits on to glass work to wiring to running and hiding from the wife are needed. Thanks in advanced to anyone who is willing to share ideas here.

UPDATES

So i got another couple of days on the Chinook and its finally coming together... I installed the rear under body propane tank.... I will add additional bracing and a skid plate for added protection but here is the tank so far.

cab area

I also glassed and cleaned up the overhead area of the cab. This was a concern because of the removal of the sunroof. I wasn't sure how I would finish the space and make it look nice. Now it looks great and I plan to use it for storage also.

Thanks!!! The mirrors just work ok for now... the body is about 2" wider on each side than stock but yes it would be better to have them a little wider.. Ill see how im going to tackle that after i finish the other stuff.

starting to really come together, looks great!

Thanks!!! I wish I could move along faster and do a more thorough job of documenting. Ill be back for Xmas so i plan to get a lot done on the interior and take a lot more pics.

Im thinking the flares and lower body moldings should be all black... what do you all think???

Yes. Once you go black.......

The black would pull the lines together if it was on the front flares. I say go for it.

Man...it's looking great. Way to go...keep on it, I can't wait to see the finished project.

I would paint it all a matching color personally. Put lower body shielding on, and make use of ever spare inch of space under there with compartments that are built into the lower sides. That would be cool free storage space.

I always thought of a quasi-military look would be cool, kind of tough industrial look.

The mirrors and the spot right behind the front door were originally the same as the body color and didn't seem to look right. I think i will probably do the flares and cladding satin black. I'll also spray the underbody boxes i make with black bedliner. The work never ends...
