Anyone got another line on the Tang Band W4-1720's? I ordered one from Part's Express and they said they were out until at least October. I would even try something else if someone has a good recommendation...

Thanks for the help Mudders!

The hole is really close to a 4" diameter. Maybe there is enough room to "ream" out the hole and fit a 4.25" diameter speaker. I really don't want to try this if I can avoid it...

The mounting depth can be at least 3". Maybe even like 3.5".

I can take any other measurements anyone would like since mine is out right now...

Still looking for a W4-1720. If anyone has an extra, I'll buy it!

Thanks

Thanks for the info and think woofer is dead period. Ordered a different brand since I can find the one you recommended and we'll see how it goes. It's only about 30 bucks shipped so if doesn't work well then no big deal.

I can set up some folks. I ordered 3 extra of these back in March thinking I would give them as gifts, but that fell through, so I can set up some folks.

$50 shipped to the first PM's.

Anndddd RESURRECTED!!!

@Wheelingnoob its been 4 years. Update on the baby sub, type of speakers you ended up using and what deck did you end up with?

Thank you for the post, it's a great find :-)

The dash has 4" tweeters. I clipped them from my system (they are wired in parallel with the door speakers and pull power) and used them for CB external speaker.

I like this idea, I'll be doing the same.
Except I'll upgrade them since they are blown - whoops!

I put Polk audio speakers in front and rear doors. Pioneer double din deck, sound was OK but the 4" sub is a waste of time. I replaced the console with one from a land cruiser to get more usable space. I just tossed the LX one a few weeks ago with the sub.

Really eh!
Well it makes sense, you can only get so much sound from a 4" speaker. Why not use the space wisely.

Thanks for the input!

I have one and love it. I think that without the center speaker, the entire sound system would be sh$t. I have replaced the front door speakers as well with some pioneer units. I just might be crazy, but I think the stk system with these upgrades is better than a lot of modern sound systems even with the stock head unit. I'm not saying it's the best, but it is good enough for my needs. I guess one day, I will need to hear a fully upgraded system.

Resurrected. I have one brand-new speaker and one used speaker need to part ways with.

Got the Tang Band W4 as linked in the first post. Thanks for finding that part!
It looks well made and I'll post up before and after sound (playing "Return Of The Mack" by Mark Morrison...you're welcome) after install but I've got a quick question.
There's a wad of insulation buried in the subwoofer box from the factory. Would it be better to leave that in or take it out? I know nothing about woofer boxes :)

A couple of years ago I put new speakers in my dash. They are Blaupunkt PCxb 352 3.5" and 1.91" mounting depth.
Has anyone replaced the small tweeters in the dash recently. These are no longer made and I'm wondering if anyone had success with anything else. I replaced the front and rear door speakers. Subwoofer is next and the dash speakers after that.

Replaced the subwoof with the tang bang one from earlier in the thread. The system actually makes noise now the retro sound speakers up front recommended by crutchfield are awesome. It's not amazing but it's good. Before it rattled and really didn't do anything. I would just listen to the speaker in my phone. So it's a vast improvement.

I am not impressed by the pioneer rear speakers.i would bet they would sound a lot better with an aftermarket head unit.

Interesting. I did the same thing as you for front and rear door speakers. I also am not thrilled with the pioneers but do like the front door speakers. My sub actually seems to work, not terribly anyway.
Please post any insights you uncover.

I have the tang speaker as well and also have the interior gutted to do a carpet replacement.

I see the plastic tabs that you have to trim, but what's holding me up is that the screws don't seem to line up. Did yours line up with the factory locations or did you just drill new ones?
