Hello, everyone. Vehicle is a 2001 LX470 with 167,832 miles.
When turning the key in the ignition, I felt something snap and the key turned freely in the ignition lock cylinder. After searching in this forum, I figured it was probably the steering column bracket barrel rod that broke. My circumstances did not allow me to tackle the repair myself, so I took it to my local Lexus dealer. The parts guy and service advisor have seen this prior and a new bracket assembly and breakaway bolts were ordered. The experienced service advisor is no longer with them and a not-very-experienced advisor checked me in. Long story short, they repaired the problem (broken barrel rod) and the vehicle starts and runs fine. I was told, since the job took a week, that the tech was not experienced with this repair and the service manager had to help him. All of this leads up to a new set of problems.
These are the issues I observed upon picking up my Lexus. None of these issues were present when I brought the car in for service.
The immobilizer light no longer blinks prior to putting the key into the ignition or after removing the key from the ignition.
The driver‘s door chimes constantly when open, even when the key is out of the ignition and the headlights are off.
The door locks are not operational from inside the car, either by pressing the switch or moving them manually. They spasm if operated. The only way I can lock the car doors is to lock them from the outside with the key.
The automatic tilt steering column does not function when the key is put into the ignition or removed from the ignition.
The AHC indicator lights are always on (low position) and the AHC check light flashes constantly. The AHC was removed from the vehicle four years ago by Slee Offroad and those lights have never been illuminated since. The AHC relay in the fuse box was removed by Slee, so I suspect something done in the cabin is causing these lights to be illuminated.
I think I understand the basics of how the immobilizer and ignition lock cylinder and associated hardware function but am far from an expert.
I am taking it back to them tomorrow to have them correct their errors. I look forward to hearing your analysis and suggestions to resolve these issues. Thank you in advance.
