Clear as mud. Again, my retired engineer mind wants tables of data, not lore.

So how do we cross reference the Lexus credit card fob for the LC it will work with? So far, I haven't found a table that shows that. Can we assume that a 570LX of a given year will work with a LC of the same year? And, where did you do your lookups and cross referencing?

There is no table. It requires some online research and conclusions. The 2010-15 LX will work with the 10-15 Land Cruiser, I've also confirmed that the 16+ appear to all be the same between the LC and LX ( confirmed on a 16 to definitely work).

I looked at Toyota Parts sites, remote sites, and even Ebay to cross-reference and confirm. And after all that, I was pretty sure I had the right card ordered (and I did). So if you have a 10-15, FCC ID: HYQ14ABB should work for the credit card (again, I confirmed on a 11, but it appears the FCC ID/FOBs are the same 10-15. No idea on 08-09. Someone will need to research it.

For a 2016+, HYQ14CBB will do the trick. I'd recommend ordering from Norfolk or another Toyota dealer where you can return if it won't program, but I have put in the work to confirm what works on a lot of years. Also, if you buy a pre-owned key, you must have Toyota or a locksmith unlock it before programming. Techstream will not unlock the key, and I have no idea how it is done.

If your Land Cruiser spare has a double sized emergency/entry key, the Credit Card style emergency key will not work, as it is single sided. The FOB will work fine, but you won't have an emergency key to get access to your rig. I carried a spare battery in my wallet in small plastic sleeve when I had my 11 (which had a double sided key), but never had an issue. The LC will tell you when the FOB battery is getting low.

The 2016 has a single sided key and my local locksmith was able to cut it with no issues.

So when you mention double sided keys. Will it work if my 2008 LX570 key fob w/ L-shaped detachable key looks like this:

A little wondering out loud here, since I have a 15, double sided key and a lexus smart card on the way...

Can you insert that single sided key in either way? (Rotated 180 so the blank and cut sides are reversed) If so, maybe all the LC and LX lock cylinders are actually single sided rather than pins/tumblers on both sides. Will be interested to know if you can reverse that L shaped key before I waste time and money trying to get a single sided key cut for my 15 LC.

Nope, single sided key will not work on your lock.

Got my "new" smartcard today. Bubble wrap parts envelope was sealed, but the battery was dead! Hoping I got a truly new one, not one thats already programmed. Will find out tmrw when my mechanic tries to program it. BTW, that 2412 battery is not a common size. Ended up at the Lexus stealership paying 10 bucks! They've always been questionable, much worse now that they're owned by Penske. If you're going this route and wont have the mechanical key, I'd echo the suggestion of carrying a spare battery.

Where did you end up buying it?

FWIW, you can buy a large pack at Amazon fairly inexpensively. IIRC, I purchased a five pack of Panasonic batteries for about $15. They all came in small plastic ziploc type sleeves. Hard to find locally.

Already ordered some spare batteries. I needed a good battery in a hurry for appt tmrw. Walgreens Advance Auto and Frys didn’t carry that size. I knew the Lexus dealer would be expensive but yikes! Pre-Penske they gave them away. I did get some lemonade and a cookie so take that Lexus.

I bought the remote off eBay from bell Lexus of Scottsdale. Will update tmrw whether its working.

I'd send them the invoice for the defective battery. I bet they refund you the $10. I purchased mine from Norfolk Toyota and the battery was 100%.

Order batteries on Amazon. About $8 for FIVE batteries. Stick with Amazon’s own warehouse source though...as button cell batteries from third parties are notoriously bad. Not always...but often enough thatI avoid them.

What year is your Lexus? I posted a pic of my key fob and L shaped key wondered if the spare will work for me?

It is single sided, so it may work. My stock key is completely flat on one side (as is the lexus credit card style key). Yours has two ridges/raised areas on the back, not sure if that makes a difference or not...

For those that find this later and want to cut to the chase...

If you want a compatible key card part # - do this.
From there you can search the bay, amazon, or any dealer of choice to source and buy.

1. Go to Shop OEM Lexus Parts & Accessories at Discounted Prices | Lexus OE Parts

2. Pick the year of LC/LX you have, and select LX570.

3. Search for "transmitter"

Choose the part that is labeled "keyless entry"
The description will say card type.

i.e. 2015

$45-50 is reasonable. Takes 6 minutes to do.

If you have a dealer in mind try to negotiate on price. They'll often discount when pushed.
Also if you buy the card key through them you can ask them to wave the programming fee.

In any case if you have a LC, be prepared to address the whole lexus part being programmed to a toyota.
It might take some explaining to get them to understand.

It can also be DIY if one wants to get the cable and has a windows laptop to use.

How much does a dealer typically charge for programming a card key? Thanks!

I'm kind of glad I have a mac. I'd be tempted to DIY if I still had a windows laptop.

BTW, I was not able to get my card programmed today. Turns out I got the wrong one. If anyone needs 89904-50642 let me know. My mechanic didn't charge me since he knows I'll be back with the right one and since he's never seen one of those cards, he's curious to see it work.

A friend of mine just got a BMW X7 and it came with a smart card. As thin as a credit card, maybe even a bit thinner.
