You must not be referring to the 19 speaker ML system. Otherwise your music quality is lacking from the input side.
I have the ML Reference system that only only available on the LX/LS and yes I use the CD player sometimes and it is underwhelming. Not sure how many speakers it has but the front center speaker dominates the sound.

Anyone who paid for that system brand new is a total sucker. I have used Amazon music in the past so probably not HD but that wasn't around in 2013 so again I am not believing that Lexus/ML were looking to the "future"

Plus to say it is so amazing we have to assume the audio system wasn’t abused previously. And that things like the foam speaker surrounds are all in good shape.

The inside of a car isn’t the best place for high quality speakers to live for ten years.

For someone that isn't majorly concerned with sound quality, that large extra cubby in the back is an amazing feature to have. For me, the sound quality improvements of the ML are worth it. Even on my '08 it is a significant improvement to one of my family members base model '21, unsure how it compares to the JBL in the LC though. By today's standards I'd probably put the ML about average for a premium car system, but on a 20-30k used car it's pretty amazing. The ML is about equal to the Bose system in my FL5 Type R if that helps.

Also, using the analog 3.5mm input on the LX sounds terrible (even with one of those supposedly high end bluetooth adapters). The Grom, or similar unit that hooks into the CD input, is absolutely necessary.

Little side fact.
Thats not the most basic audio setup you can get at a 200.
Low tier 200 GX have 2 - yes! Two(!) - noname speakers at all located in the driver and passenger door.
But with a bit of cutting you can fit also aftermarket in other places like these tweeters
