Went to start the ol' Land Cruiser this morning and this noise started shortly after start. I'm guessing it's a bearing but was hoping the community had some tribal knowledge on this and could help narrow it down as it's too loud to distinguish where it's coming from.

It could be a bad idler or tensioner bearing. I would remove the serpentine belt and turn the them manually and see it they feel smooth. You could also start the truck without the serpentine belt for a few minutes and see if the noise goes away.

My guess could be the fan bracket, they tend to go out after 200k my next bet could be alternator. Take off belt and hand spin the pulleys.

Pop off the belt and see if it goes away. If it does, try to find the crunchy bearing. It's likely the idlers or fan bracket. Idlers are a 30 minute job, fan bracket takes a bit longer.
