if it was new in the box from a highly respected member it could still be wrong and the vendor would not know it .you cant rule anything out .as said here the fan doesnt look right .i have interchanged those for years and never had an issue but all the parts were removed from other fj 40s .i have several clutch fans hanging on the wall if i remember i will photo one and measure it .by the time i get to the garage i wont remember why i went there but will try

Thanks for the part numbers. Is the pulley the same one as I showed in my picture or is is a specialised one? From your pictures it does look close but can't fully see the pulley behind the fan. Do you know what make and year vehicle the pulley comes out of? An FJ-55?

MyToy72, the pulley you have looks like the one I had for my clutch setup. As I remember it, the hole spacing for the clutch and non-clutch bolt pattern is different, and the pulleys have a different backspacing so the belts line up even though the pumps are different lengths.

If you look closely at the waterpump box it lists the years. I think it's a 78 fj55 with oil cooler.

The clutch pulley holes are different than the direct drive pulley.

Here's my box label... Heh, the elusive FJ56...

OK, here is where I am with this saga. I read somewhere on Mud that you can change the flange on the water pump to work for your particular situation. Anyway, I looked quickly again and could not find it. I pulled the flange from my F engine and measured to the end of the spindle. 5 and 1/2 inches. I then pulled the flange from the 2F and measured to the end of the spindle, you guessed it 5 and 1/2 inches. I put the flange from the F on the 2F pump and mocked up the install. I have over 2" from the fan to the radiator. Clearance is good. I have now sourced a dual pulley from a 1973 FJ-40 so I can complete the installation and belts will line up for a Alternator, Waterpump, Crank belt. I have attached pictures including my home made flange puller. I used scrap 1/4" plate steel. Of course the holes on the flanges were different so had to drill two sets of holes to pull the flange. Pictures attached. My question, can/should I run the 2F with the older metal fan on the 2F pump? What will removing the "Fan Clutch" possibly impact? If this works it saves me lots of work as the original Fan Shroud works etc.... Is this a wise thing to do? Thanks as always for the help.

Oh, forgot to mention, the pump that 76 Tech mentions from Aisin appears to be the pump I have on my 2F already.

Ok, so I got the pulley from a 1973 40 and changed the flange on my existing pump to accommodate the the pulley. Here is what it looks like while mocking it up. Does this look correct? Sorry that not all the pictures are appearing correctly. I fix them and upload them and then they flip again. Sorry.

I think if it lines up the belts, fits the fan, should be good to go. For reference, here's the original hardware from my '76 reinstalled.

Thanks In looking at your picture the only thing that looks different is the plastic fan. I might source the one you noted but for now just want to get it running. Thanks for all the help folks I am hoping once I get the right belt that I will be almost ready to go. Thanks again.

I can tell by looking at your pics that our pulleys are different, mine seems to have more "nose" sticking out in front, but of course that's because the flange on mine sticks father forward, too. I say, see where the fan sits and run with it. By the way, of course I have noticed absolutely no different behavior after getting rid of the fan clutch.
