The third row ceiling light worked fine yesterday after install but today it isn't. Installed the spare but still no light. Checked with voltmeter and no juice at socket either in ON or DOOR switch setting with rear door open. The rest of the new lamps work great and I've checked every fuse in the three boxes - all are good. This is an '03 Cruiser with rear DVD player and the 10 amp dome fuse is in the passenger side fuse box and good. I'm stumped. Any suggestions?
Thanks

I have all lights installed(except the 2nd row dome light, which was replaced with a Walgreens DVD player by the PO. It fell off on a dirt road last weekend. Looking for a replacement dome).
Install was smooth. Went through a few fuses, finally decided to remove the fuse during installation. Replaced with a 15a which seems to be working. It took a few tries to find the sweet spot for the door lights. I found it easier to remove the entire housing.
Thanks again to PFran for pulling this together.

You may need to pull the headliner! Also, check the wires that go to the dome light housing! Was the oem dome light at that location working before?

call these guys for the dome light! They might have a take off or brand new one! Check the price and let me know if you want me to pick it up and ship it to you! This place is on my way to school:D

Just finished the install.

I blew the fuse too, which is weird because it means that the on/off switch on the dome does not cut the power to the live side, it cuts the ground.

I removed the cargo dome module completely because the bulb "inserts" in the domes are a bit long and I could not get the insert to seat properly. I may go back to the 2nd row dome and do the same thing to get a more firm installation. I broke one of the inserts trying to install it. To remove the existing dome light bulbs, I looped a zip tie up behind the bulb so I could tug on it. I still had to squeeze one of the metal clips to release the bulbs, but the zip tie gave me a little more control on my grip.

Discovered that a previous owner has completely disconnected the power to the 2nd row door lights. I never carry passengers, so I never noticed.

Those door lights can be tough to pull. I used a small flat head screw driver to pry two of them out VERY gently.

Now I wait for the sun to go down.

Yes, the OEM bulb worked fine prior to the LED install and the LED worked fine for a day, too. I guess I should have just asked for confirmation that the third row dome light is on the same fused circuit as the rest of the interior lights. Is that the case? If so, then I do have a wiring or socket problem which seems odd. Just removing the old bulb and installing the new LED lamp shouldn't have taxed anything to the point of messing up wiring.

Yes, I'm pretty sure that when I blew the fuse all domes and the 2nd row door lights went out.

No its not the LED's fault by any means! When I blew the dome fuse last year, none of the dome lights and the remote locking system did not work! So yes, the dome lights are all in the same circuit! Just check the connectors and wiring! Take out the whole dome light assembly!

Hope this helps

Thanks for the confirmation that all lights are on the dome circuit although I'm wondering what the differences in wiring are between a '98 and an '03. From your post #276 describing the location of the dome fuse in your '98 LJ_24, it's obvious the '03 is different. The dome fuse on my '03 is on the passenger side and nearer the firewall than it is the door opening. Does your truck have rear AC?
I certainly didn't mean to imply, in any way, that the LED has caused this problem. One of those weird coincidences, I'm sure.

I do not have rear ac! But my dad's 03 does have it! The 03 has all the domes on the same circuit as well, I unplugged it to check:D

Ok, so what's the trick to getting the courtesy light lens back in place? the housing can move and I can't get enough force on it to click to two bottom tabs into place.

The bulbs I had before are from super bright LED's...they have been replaced

Pry out the whole housing! Until you see what is below:

Pop lens into place and snap back the entire assembly:D

Thanks LJ! How'd you get the housing out? It felt like it slid forward a bit, but I couldn't get it to release.

Thanks for the further confirmation that the '03 dome fuse controls the rear dome light. On to troubleshooting.

What you can't see in that picture is that at one end of the housing is a large immobile plastic tab and at the other end is a metal clip that you can poke with a screw driver. The metal clip is on the more rounded end (forward end on the drivers side - down in the photo). With a screw driver, gently pry the housing down from the top. It should come out maybe 1/4 inch. You should just be able to see the metal clip that will release it.

My bad! I forgot to mention that! DO NOT PRY FROM THE MIDDLE EVER! I've pried it from either side gently, it worked either way!

Right on! Thanks guys. The first courtesy light I tried was on a door that had limited swing in the garage so I couldn't get down low enough to see the metal tab.

OK guys, I'm back. I am about 70% moved in to my new house and will be shipping orders that were paid for on Friday, tomorrow morning. I will also take a look at this thread and try to assist those who need install help.

THOSE OF YOU WHO ORDERED AT THE END OF LAST WEEK:

Your orders should be arriving at your door by Weds or Thurs.
