I might spray on some biodegradable cleaner if need be, but mostly its just water from my hose sprayer. Because I have no leaks, there's nothing for dirt to stick to. As long as you stay away from dousing the harness and electronics under the manifold excessively and as long as you start it right up and dry it, you will be fine.

jim-- i'm gonna do this this weekend; the filth has gone on long enough and i've spent a couple years making sure this rigs in tip top mech shape. me and some simple green and a hose... and i'll avoid dousing the distributor and battery directly. thanks for the inspiration.

Yeah..it was getting dark, had to get them mounted. Maybe I should of used duct tape???

I plan on making a remote fuse box/dual battery set up..like I did on my FJ62. This 80's stuff is new to me, but what a pleasure to work on under the hood.

OT/Thread hijack.

MMW, where did you get that fuse/relay box combo unit?

Maybe we should start a sub chapeter of LSLC...the White 80's chapter? :)

@ 97FZJ80...Go check out your local boating store, I buy all my battery stuff there. West Marine is close to my house. They are very friendly, and even have a workbench for you to use in the back..where you can make all your battry cables. THat is were I picked up the fuse box.

From left to right:
6 pannel fuse box -6 fuses and 6 ground points - west marine
200 amp ANL fuse and holder - Local car audio shop. (or Ebay)
Pac 200 relay - Local car audio shop. (or Ebay)

I think on the FZJ80 Iam going to just buy a kit from painless wiring.

Ok - I'll bite - why not??

My experience has been that it dulls aluminum, like the valve cover. It also spotted up my pretty anodized PS pump and yellow cad parts. I either use the Gunk stuff followed by water, always on a cool engine, or I use my Karcher pressure washer along with windshield washer fluid. That stuff cleans well and dries fast and seems to be neutral.

I use the Gunk Engine Brite, and I use it liberally. None of this pantywaiste 'don't get the electronics wet' crap- I douse everything with cleaner and then spray everything off with a garden hose. Been doing this for years on every car I've owned at every oil change and never had a problem not related to a preexisting condition such as a cracked distributor cap. I'd rather find those problems now then wait for a rainstorm or puddle on a trail.
