Mine used to be that color.......................your supposed to wash them? Do they drive better clean and shinny? Does that tire treatment help with traction.??
 
Mechanically, mine is in great shape. Mud wise, mine is in great shape. ;p

May give the Engine Brite a try, but I'll follow Amando's advice and cover every electrical connection, distributor cap, etc. I can find with aluminum foil first to prevent as much water as possible from getting to the electronics. Engine is filthy right now.

Thanks for the feedback on Simple Green Jim. Have lots of it at home and that's what I'd planned on using.

I wouldn't worry with covering anything, just don't run a direct water hose on top of your engine. Use a hose sprayer and get the engine started and headed down the road a couple miles as soon as you are done rinsing it.
 
Jim - asked my current dealer if they 'cleaned' engines (as purty as your new baby) and was told that they don't for 'liability reasons'. Could take it to South Coast Toyota, where your former owner said he had it done, but I'll give it a go first.
