Been a while since i went down the desmog rabbit hole....but it looks like you're trying to keep too much smog equipment with a 'desmog' carb

Desmog carb?Been a while since i went down the desmog rabbit hole....but it looks like you're trying to keep too much smog equipment with a 'desmog' carb
you are posting pics of a carb on the engine and a carb in a box. which one are you asking about?Desmog carb?
Ah, I guess you missed the posts where I learned of the OEM carb and ordered yet another carburetor to add to my collection. Hahayou are posting pics of a carb on the engine and a carb in a box. which one are you asking about?
aftermarket / 'chinese' carbs do not usually have a fuel return line and don't have all the vacuum ports. a factory FJ60/40 aisin carb has a fuel return line and many vacuum ports.
a 'desmog' is when you remove all of the factory smog equipment and all of the assioated vacuum lines.....and either use an aftermarket carb or rebuild the factory carb to not require all of the vacuum inputs. this can be done if you live in a non-smog compliant area. tons of writeups here on this site about it. one of hte most talked about topics.
either go full desmog or full smog-compliant. you'll be chasing gremlins forever if you try and half way do it.
Do you still have the air injection rail and smog pump?
I'm not well enough acquainted with her to know that yet, sir. I'll also confess that I'm not educated on what those things are either.Do you still have the air injection rail and smog pump?
got ya. Yea, I missed that.Ah, I guess you missed the posts where I learned of the OEM carb and ordered yet another carburetor to add to my collection. Haha
I'm not desmogging anything that I know of yet. Just trying to get this thing running smoothly so I can take a ride.
Okay so I do have both of those things.got ya. Yea, I missed that.
and yes, if you are still 'stock', then you have the air rail and smog pump. I'd google those terms '2f air rail and smog pump' and compare the pics to your engine bay, to get to know the layout of the engine bay as a baseline.
learning about it all is the fun part!
Looks like the fuel line for the carb. The top of the manifolds can get pretty warm. I'm sure you'd be okay to replace the line/insulationView attachment 3636543
How hard is it to remove and/or replace this ratty old insulation? Do I need it?
Man, thank you! You'll find that the emissions manual will guide you through all these, but here's some quick ID's:
Red: Air rail
Green: Smog/Air pump
Blue: VSV (Vacuum Switching Valve)
Orange: EGR Cooler
Purple: EGR Vacuum Modulator
Pink: EGR Valve

Here's the overview from the emissions manual:

The square green plug up top could be for the fuel cut solenoid valve. There should be a ground cable for the carb fan. I don't know about the bottom green round plug. It might be for an emissions related VSV?View attachment 3638782
I'm having trouble figuring out what this third very sad and burnt wire/plug is coming from the same harness that plugs into the carb
The square green plug in the top of the pic goes to the carb, so could the bottom green round be the ground? The square green plug up top could be for the fuel cut solenoid valve. That wire is most likely the ground for the carb fan which will run after you turn the engine off to deal with heat soak. My ground did not have that green connector. The square green plug in the top of the pic goes to the carb, so could the bottom green round be the ground?
Thank you, that makes senseThat wire is most likely the ground for the carb fan which will run after you turn the engine off to deal with heat soak. My ground did not have that green connector.
