Hrr.. soo it should dump fuel out when plunged right? What I don't get is my Mercedes did the same thing.... which was nothing.
So if this new Bosch is correct will it dump diesel on the ground once primed like my old one correct?

Dump fuel on the ground?

Well the primer should move the fuel without leaking itself.

(Whether you want to make a mess or not is up to you. :D)

Just so there's no confusion, here's how Toyota recommends using the OEM primer:
Bleed1.webp

Bleed2.webp

(Using the Bosch is the same except you never need to turn any part of it in order to free/lock it. In other words, it is always ready to pump fuel and will do so whenever you push down on the black plastic top.)

So is the spring and check valve in my old primer? I think I still have it.

Who knows?

I suggest removing the Bosch and looking underneath to see if you have the undamaged components circled here:
FuelPump.webp

(ie. What I was calling "spring and plunger" that form part of the check valve)

If you screwed in the Bosch without realising the stem of that "plunger component" needs to go up into its rectum, then you could have mutilated it?

Hope this helps....

In the mercedes, you're supposed to loosen the metal fuel filter at the large nut above (22 mm). You pump the little black bugger until no more bubble come out...only fuel. In the merc its easy cos the tubing is clear there (from primer to fuel filter).

On the Toy, I did the same thing...loosed fuel filter and pumped until it started running out. I didn't know about the method that the manual states, but I guess ignorance was bliss.

My 2H fired to life in one crank.

With the new black bosch plunger, at no time will fuel ever come out of the primer itself or its connections. If it does in your case (I may be misreading your post) then you have not tightened it sufficiently, or have not used the washer or something else is leaking. Fuel is only supposed to come out of any connection your loosen, nowhere else.

The old primer is a different devil altogether. Yes, pumping that will dump fuel everywhere. I read somewhere that this was normal behaviour for this type of primer pump.

Anyone happen to know what wrench size is required to remove the priming pump. Pretty tough to get to.

I fits a new primer pump you may have to dribble a little diesel in it before installing, a dry pump will not prime.
