I hate to bring possible bad news but both times I’ve gone through this the ultimate fix was a new cowl.
That sucks. On the flip side, my LX sits outside 24x7 and my fix has held up for the last 18 months.

weather stripping gave me a couple more years last time. When it failed again this summer removing the cowl to re do the stripping broke off 2 of the tabs.

Including the original I’m on my 3rd windshield. I think the problem with the cowl is that is isn’t designed in a way that maintains integrity after a removal and reinstall.

I took my cowl off to route some wires to the roof. Now I’m nervous as hell about a leak.

Mine has been dry since resealing and adding a deflector.

I have to replace a cracked windshield soon. I Figure I should do a preemptive strike while the cowl is off. Is the “deflector” you speak of any different from the weather stripping shown in the thread?

Anyone think compressible rubber stripping (ala door seals) would age better than the closed cell foam weather stripping?

Well, my fix has finally stopped working. I took the cowl off once and put a new layer of foam in where the old one was, but I'm still getting a leak. Guess I need to look into either ordering a new cowl or figure out what I did wrong this time with the foam.

Got 4 years out of the first fix, so guess that's not too bad.

Is this the part I'd get to replace on my 2017 that has a leak issue now, post-windshield replacement? I've heard the price was supposed to be in the $200's but looks like it's gone up. Thanks in advance!

That appears to be the right part. It's a little cheaper from Partsouq. But maybe not cheaper enough to risk the international shipping. I ordered mine through IMPEX from Japan as that was the cheapest way to get it. It was around 400-450 after shipping. But the earlier ones are a lot more expensive than the 2016+ part. The 2010 part is $300 more so the savings was more drastic. Looks like you can order the new part through Toyota rather than Lexus which means it can be included in the 25% off parts sale. That's probably the way I'd do it.

It's $422 shipped through the Toyota sale.

If it makes ya'll feel any better, the MSRP on it now is $925!

I've joined the club unfortunately.

2018. Truck sits outside. Original windshield. Pulled the cowl earlier this year (was going to run some power to the roof on side channel). Re-installed cowl with no issues. Sunroof drains were cleaned a month or so ago.

Had a really hard downpour the other day. Looked on passenger side footwell the next morning.

Released panel below glove box. The foam around the clip on back left was wet. Some of the padding on the panel was also wet.
I pulled the Husky mat back and felt the carpet. It was also damp near the drip point (top left). Pulled floor mat out and put a space heater there to dry everything out.

Today, I removed the cowl. Cleaned lowest portion of windshield which had a lot of gunk. Cleaned the lip of the cowl that rests against windshield, more gunk. Also cleaned the drain channels in the cowl. All clips were intact!

"While in there" added a mesh screen to keep varmints out. Was a little surprised to see black drip marks from windshield sealant - from factory.

I modified the screen to sit flush, no pic.

Also added 3/4" strip of expanding weatherstrip just below the windshield, length of the air inlet + few inches. Same as others did.
Reinstalled cowl, sits flush and firm.

Will monitor, check cabin filter after heavy rain.
Contemplating purchases of new cowl if there are any good Black Friday sales. Figure may be good to have on hand just in case this repair job doesn't hold up for a few years.

I think once this cowl is removed, that's when problems can start. Foam memory. Best to leave it alone unless you're getting a windshield replacement. I also think the rubber seal that goes against the windshield can go bad, it's the first line of defense.

What is up with the pricing of this cowl today? It's MSRP is $900+. Is this tariff related? Was like $500 earlier this year.

Seems like a part most places will refuse to ship, too.

The black drips may be a sort of primer applied to the body before the urethane bead is laid down. The actual urethane sealant shouldn’t be anywhere near thin enough to run like that.

My repair & cleaning seem to be holding up. Have had some evening showers, no hard downpours but everything is dry. Went ahead and took advantage of the Serra Online Parts sale w free shipping. I placed several orders for various parts, including a separate order for the cowl. Wasn't sure if they would ship the cowl as others have encountered and in-store pickup is not an option. Pleased to see it shipped today, all in for $479 and piece of mind if or when it starts leaking down the road.

New cowl arrived today via UPS. Free shipping. Given the size of the box and expense, I'm sure this is why online parts dealers don't want to ship.

BTW - got a lot of rain and sleet overnight and no water in the floor mats....

Started recently getting this leak with the rainy pnw weather. I removed the cowl and added weatherstripping so we’ll see how it works going forward.

However I noticed that I just have a loose wire down there near the air inlet. Looking at everyone else’s pictures this connects to another wire that appears to be routed under the windshield, however on my 13 LX it’s not connected to anything and no signs of that other wire.

If you look closely at the positions the wiper blades park in.. so you see a wire grid in the glass similar to the defrost element on the rear window?

If not, your panel probably didn’t come with the heated wiper elements.
