Guys, when I had that rig, it was covered. It was NEVER used for anything other than entertaining oil men on a hunting lease. Everything from the wheels to the seats, were original. It even had the original 3-on-tree and Vacuum shift-on-the-fly 4WD, and it all worked. It was 40k or so original miles. Decals on the engine and compartment were in tact still. It is hard for me to imagine how bad it is now. Also, cruisers go REALLY fast in the weather uncovered.

It's a shame to leave them out like that when die hards would love to run them around. Ryan claims to have enough mechanical skill to get in there and get her running. He has his work cut out for him though if he does get it.

Met the guy in Lowes when it was really just Larry and I and we were tossing the idea of BSLCA around. Nice guy.. "Retired from the oil field I think.. pretty young to be retired as well.

.. He's redone a 40 or so and was redoing a J**p for a friend when I met him.

Wait, I think I know who that is now. Good to see he's got the 40 out and running. I know the Jeep had him tied up.

I use to spot him every now and then at Red's, he's had it about 15 years and drives quite a bit. I saw him with a couple people around Mardi Gras. Let's get him a card next time we see him. He use to have a house off of Eraste Landry, but he moved some time ago.

Did anybody post up about a black 40 driving around town? I spotted one yesterday going down Kaliste Saloom Rd.

That'd be interesting if its the same guy I met years ago when the first club was trying to get going...there was a guy with a black FJ40 back then. I remember the mods...splitcase xfer, misc. parts off odd rigs. Probably not him...that was a long time ago...but you never know...

we took a ride out to Arnaudville once...all met on I49 and rode out to some property where I saw an FJ45 pickup...

I was out last night in Lafayette driving the Cruiser when I spotted a Yellow 40 heading north on University at the Johnston intersection. I blew the horn and yelled at him and got a big wave back. I couldn't turn around to run him down. Even if I could have, he probably would have run after hearing my horn.:) This was not an original Mustard Yellow. It was brighter........kinda like Corvette Yellow. Anybody seen this one around before.

Yeah, I met him years ago...he's the one with the friend who had the "barn cruiser" with low miles and mint condition...they sold it to his son (now in IRAQ) for something like $500...anyway, I used to rent a place a few blocks from him. He still takes it out on weekends and maintains it. Will and I went talk to him a few months ago. They've had this rig for at least 7 years. They live downtown Lafayette by the Library. I hope to go visit him again and tell him about us.

This is the yellow ~ 78 that I took a pic of at the bank and told you about Theriot??? I left them a card and a note. ...a visit never hurts.

Nice, to see all the cruiser's out. Now we need to catch up with them. The second cruiser I did a resto on 75 was a corvette yellow as well. He's co-owner of the Daiquiri Supreme on Johnston St. He sold it to a friend that works in the oil field about two years ago. I tried to get his number, but need to try again. :)

I spotted a 40 on Friday driving down Kaliste to Hwy. 90 - tan color like Scott's but with a soft top, sides removed. When I turned left on Pinhook, I saw the maroon 40.

I've seen the tan one... only once. I think they left the hard doors on and had the top off.

saw a white 40 with 3 red strips hard top and doors look clean it was at Bills garage where larry worked back in the day

If that's the one I'm thinking of, I saw it at a tire shop right by Fatima where Marty plays. It has been used as a drag-behind from the gear. Looks to be a late 70's -80, 81. Red stripes are large? ...and the lamps had screen over them.

Left him a card.

Yea I think thats the one Scott caught at the tire place. But it good to know he goes to Bill. There is also a nice 82 FJ40 Bill services in great condition. I get occasional calls to give tech assistance on some cruiser they have there. I still visit with Bill once a month or so. I'll drop some cards and a flyer next time I'm there. He is going to appraise the cruiser for me so I can go with JC Taylor for insurance on the 78. :)

LOL i went to the deer camp this weekend and saturday it was nasty weather so me and the girlfriend went to the bass pro shop in shreveport. on the way the girlfriend ask why i was only doing 30 mph. i realized i was looking behind house and barns for old 40 and had slowed down to 30 mph in a 65. thought it was funny because if i was by myself i might have got a ticket for going to slow. i didnt see any curisers but the weather was bad with lots of rain so maybe next time ill find that barn curiser we all hope to find for $500
