the bug run
So, I will keep it brief, but we blew out of ATL at 845am (me late as usual), but no problems as we arrived at 10am to meet Andy and Mike at his shop. It rained as we got to his shop for about 20 min and the sky looked threatening.
We finally took off and low and behold the ham radio crackled to life with Elbert communicating from the meeting point all the way to the shop. Pretty impressive for communications over the CB.
Joseph as always is creeped out by bugs, so he ends up taking a few cool pictures of I think a gear beetle on the windshield.

We aired down at the usual place and took off onto the trails, going slowly as it looked entirely different as there was a lot more water than usual.
We met up with folks and set up things.
We off loaded everything else and met the others and start off.
Well, not 20 sec into it, you see the OMG moment.

I am behind him, in a panic, I get out of the car forgetting to put it into park, it keeps moving and I get back in to slam on the brakes and avert disaster.
We get out to help and realizing holding the truck was futile, I got back into the truck, thought I had my foot on the brake and stick it into reverse and fly backwards, thank god I shifted into park and avoided running into a tree.
By now, I finally pull forward and they put my winch cable on and avert a disaster even before we leave.....
Shaken, we all laugh it off and move onwards for an all day ride. The weather was actually pretty good, rained on us twice for about an 1hour total and then was a mix of sun and clouds and green everywhere. The moss was incredible green like well.....vibrant moss and the forest was just vibrant in the height of spring bloom.
We made it thinking we were going to have another monsoon, but just light sprinkles ending from the previous downpour.
We had a glorious evening with a clear starry night and as always, good stories.
