Okay, the beers are inhibiting my message board skills. Let's try the screen shot again.

Sorry to drag this out of the "depths" but does the Delorme/Earthmate package have a Speed function (tells you how fast you are going)? I'm pretty sure the MS Streets & Trips w/GPS does this, but I can't find anything that says the Delorme combo does. . .

NMEA-0183 is a protocol defined by the National Marine Electronics Association (USA). In short, NMEA messages can be communicated from a GPS receiver that supports the protocol. These message types relate to the time, position (lat, long, up) and fix (autonomous, DGPS, RTK fixed, RTK float) information about the receiver.

It also displays altitude. I've had version 7, 8 and now the latest street atlas 2004. It's a great piece of software. I especially like the night mode.

inav and memory map

I run a touch screen fujitsu laptop with Inav for on road stuff and memory map naviagtor for off road. The inav comes with voice navigation and all the maps.

For memory map you need to buy the quads you want. You can buy an entire state at 1:24000 or you can buy a region at 1:100000. You can also just buy individual quads. Memory map is an awesome product and is highly recommended.

I am using Delorme Topo USA 4.0 and Street Atlas USA 4.0 Handheld on a laptop using Delorme's Earthmate GPS with Bluetooth battery pack. In a word (or 3) I love it!

Both have current speed functions. Street Atlas even has trip planning: calculates fuel costs and refuel stops based on your input. It rocks!
