Yes, it is. It happens to be the correct cargo area lamp for an 80 without third row seats. It mounts in the rearmost roof rail just to the left-of-center of the vehicle.

Is it a 3-way like the others or two way? The 3-way was a PITA because of the sheet metal issue, but it sure was nice to have it function like the others. I snaked the wires and tied into #2 so the doors would control it.

It has a three-position switch and the rear roof wire feed only powers the "door" position when the tail gate is opened as opposed to the doors.

Well then, I'll be needin' me one of them. I don't remember seeing any wires back there when I did the one back in '97. Where is it, do you know?

Jim

The dome wire is bundled and taped to the roof wire in the LH upper "D" pillar corner (at least in the 91-94 vehicles). I have not personally looked at a 95-up. I suspect that it is there because the part number for the rear roof wire is the same. When the wire is cut free from the bundle it will extend to just short of the centerline of the rear roof rail (again in 94-back vehicles that I have personally seen).

Quite some time ago I came across a reference to the tucked away wiring for a rear lamp on the 80scool site. I had saved that info for future reference. Anyway, last year I dropped the rear roof panel on my '97 and was not able to find the bundle Dan has in his '93. I did find an unused connector down in the inner finder where the jack is stored that had a wire of the correct color code for the lamp, but my testing with a meter didn't show any switching happening with the rear hatch opening or closing.

Anyway, I can't say with certainty that the wiring isn't there on a '97, only that I was unsuccessful in locating it, despite a diligent effort of searching while holding up the roof panel with one hand.

Piece of cake..........I thought you wanted the "cargo area" rearmost lamp, which is a bit different. Here is what the cargo dome looks like:
The little flat spot in the rear roof rib is perfect sized to fit this lamp.

So this would be the harness that feeds the third brake light? I didn't remove enough of the headliner molding to look that far to the side, but I am going to. And once I find this connector it just plugs into the light ass'y? Does it require that the headliner be cut or how does it mount?
Yes it does just plug into the light ass'y.
you have to cut the metal becouse there is a protrution on the rear of the light.
once you releif cut the roof rib the light will slide in to the hole you made and you can plug the light in from the back. It mounts with two screws, I used two self tapping screws.
I cut the headliner enough to fit the light down in the hole in the roof rib.
One point Dan pointed out is the light does not activate with the doors, instead it lights when the hatch is opened. or manualy.
I used dremmel cut off wheels, clean and neat hole was produced.
good luck, mine lit up the cargo area nicely.

I'm looking for an FZJ80 LandCruiser, but in the process I have come across a few Lexus LX450s with low mileage. I understand that Lexus is made by Toyota.
Can anyone tell me the pros and cons between the two?
Will I be able to use after market products in the 80 series on the Lexus?
I plan to seriously wheel this vehicle.
Please help.
Thanks.

As others have already stated...there's no worthwhile difference between the LX and the LC. I owned a 94 LC and currently have 2 LXs. Get the best rig for the best price with the options that you know you'll want. The fact that the LX body panels were designed to be integrated with the flares is sort of a pain in the ass if you want to remove the flares only...but it's not something that the average guy can't deal with.

With a LX, you might get comments from some (not necessarily those on this forum) on the trail, like, "you're wheelin' a Lexus?" or "are you crazy bringing that Lexus out here?" But not much worse than that.

Personally, I like some of the differences in the LX that are not in the LC, but not enough to make me want to pay more for them.

I agree with Doug. The only reason I bought the Lexus is that it had all the features I wanted, excellent condition for a better price. I do like the CD changer though. I have done a brake job, front axle rebuild, installed OME lift, replaced all the fluids and have bought all the same parts for an 80. The only Lexus pecuiliar part I needed was an extra door lock remote, and I bought tha on ebay.

I am real happy with the Lexus. Mine does not have the cell phone and so the rear window does open.

Most LXs still have the headliner installed...
Say Eric, that headliner still in the hallway? :bounce:

nope, only kept it there for a couple of months...
until the wife threatened to clean it with the mop! :D
It's back in, just that I haven't put all the other trim pieces back in...

anyway, looks much more rugged without the headliner (hint hint for LX :princess: !)

Sorry to be anal about this but I would like the above "LX differences" list to be as accurate as possible.

Are you saying that your left side windows in the cargo area will both slide open? The front window slides back; and the rear window slides forward? Both left and right sides operate exactly the same?

Here you can check out what I have done to my LX. I have no regrets, tho I would have bought a Land Cruiser if I could have found one as nice as my LX. The LX seats are superb!!!

Yes, without the cell phone ant, the windows work just like a LC. The option was never installed in my rig.

That is VERY odd. The LX450 catalog only lists a stationary glass for the LH rear position and lists only three latches for the quarter windows instead of four.

Are you certain that the LH rear section has a latch at the rear center and will slide forward?

OK, never argue with C-Dan. I went out and checked. Both windows on the pass side open. On the drivers side, just the front part opens.

I Stand Corrected!

Now I learned something new. Never opened the windows before today in the rear.

Gotta disagree with Romer. On both ours and on every other LX I've seen, the rear slider does not open.

To clarify, on the LC, the windows in alongside the cargo area have the ability for both the front and rear portion to slide open -- this is for both the driver and passenger side.

On the LX it's slightly different. Both sliders on the passenger side will slide open. On the driver's side, however, only the front half will slide open. The rear portion of that window is stationary.

It's easy to tell by visual inspection as well. On the LC, all 4 sliding windows have tabs on the exterior (the backing for the latch. On the LX only the 3 sliding windows have this plastic backing piece.

I paid fairly close attention to this particular difference between the LC and LX for quite a while because I was making a list of the LC vs LX differences when I first bought the rig (people would ask -- I liked having a complete answer :) ).

:D
Tie goes to the Romer? Apparently it did in this case :)
