So I'm pretty sure my head gasket went in my 93. I went to start it and it made the most horrible sound from the engine. I did a search and it sounds exactly like a hydro locked cylinder. I have a small (6" dia) wet spot of antifreeze under the rig now. I have not done anything else yet.
I was wondering if I could get some help with a good mechanic around Bend/Redmond/Sisters area of Central Oregon. I doubt I have the time to try this myself. Fire season is coming quick and that will take up all my time till October. I was told that Greens automotive in Bend was a good Toyota mechanic, but have not been able to make contact with them yet.
What all should I have inspected and replaced?
Any help is appreciated.

If it was me, I would pull the plugs and have some one crank it over and see what if any hole has coolant in it.

There is an Toyota import shop off of Century Drive and Ventura or Enterprise.

Take the South exit to Sunriver, go past the entrance and past the high school. The gas station in on your left at the light and turn left. They have done work for me in the past and have work on two others (FJ40s) that I have purchased from the area and every time it fair, honest, word of mouth and a hand shake

Best,

Shane

If you fly fish head out S. Century drive and go over the scenic second bridge, its the wide part of the Deschutes and go past Bonanza (on your right and take you next left NF-4200-210 looks like a old fire road and head down and you go through easement into a residential and back to BLM you will find the slow water that looks like glass and the native brooks, browns and rainbow are so bright they look painted.......

Look it on google and see from above........

If you happen to remember the name of the shop, that would help as I dont drive down to Sunriver that often. I also will have the truck towed so I would like to keep it as close as possible.

I think I know that spot your talking about. I usually stay up on the Metolius though. I live in Sisters. You should see the Bull trout in Canyon Creek in the fall. BIG

This may be it, I look as hard as I could. Try snapping up a phone book and see if they advertise in print.

I love the area, I would move tomorrow if I could keep 70% of my currant wage, but its just not there and that sucks!!!

My parents live off Cotton Wood the North private entrance to SR and my sis just moved into her new house in Redmond....

O the sweet smell of sage and juniper....

Vanhandle automotive in Sisters is a good shop. He is a good guy and backs his work. I used to have an FJ62 that the previous owner had a lot of work done at Happy Danes in Bend. He swore by that shop and was an avid cruiser fan. Good luck! Hopefully it's not the hg.

Canyon Cr. is west of Camp Sherman. Its just South of Sheep Springs. If you go to the bridge by the property the Redmond Saddle club owns and follow the road along the south side of the creek, you can stop at each of the dispersed camp sites along there and see these monster Bull trout swimmin up steam in the fall.

Where is Vanhandle's??? I 'll try giving these places a call.

So any heads up on other things to check in the engine while they are in there?

Thanks again for the help.

If all else fails, Tim @ German Master Tech in Bend is my mechanic. Works on German cars primarily, but he and his lead mechanic Ozzy are great with Land Cruisers. If I needed anything done on my '94 and could not do it myself, he is the one I would go to.

Let me know if you need a phone number.

541-322-9647. He is located in North Bend (near All Seasons RV). My office is right next door (Satellite Transportation) so stop by if you come and see him.

Be warned: His pricing is not the cheapest. He quoted me ~$1,100.00 labor for the front axle (which I still need to tackle, but want to do myself). But my 5 years experience with him, you get what you pay for.

Vanhandles is on Sisters Park Way I believe. It is in the industrial park area down the street from the new recycle center if you know where that is.

I would recommend Greens Automotive Service. Ethan Green owns it. Was a Toyota tech who went out on his own. He's a wheeler and knows his way around a toyota. 330-6409

I've tried to get a hold of Greens and got no response. Is that a pretty busy shop? I had also heard that he was a great Toyota mechanic and strictly uses Toyota parts. I guess I'll keep trying to get a hold of him.

The fellow I spoke to at German Master Tech said they recently did a landcruiser with a blown HG that also had a cracked block and that bill ran $3600. That also included new hoses , thermostat, valve grind etc...

OUCH!

So????

Call the peeps in SR, if not them, they are on that loop maybe they might know??

Towing is cheap in relation to quality of work.

I did warn you... but if you run out of options, they do great work (at a premium). It hurts my wallet every time I have them do something on my BMW, but I know it was done correctly.
