Sorry but what do you mean a truck? The one I saw looks just like my cruiser. It has the same vents and body, was the one you saw red and white?

You have a badass looking Cruiser:) Looks like a truck to me.

I cant seem to find any pics or video of any 100s at Baja either ..

I did, however find this great video of an interview with the winner of the 2006 Baja1000, Andy McMillin... Its a testament of (deserved) respect for the terrain and of someone living their lifetime dream.

Its always redeeming to see someone like that win.

Time to get some TeamLoud decals made up ;)

I think decals are the least of our worries....however if you guys insist, i will go get some made in the AM. ;)

EDIT: Watching the movie now, but i hate trophy trucks. I like production class trucks....really showcases the design and engineering of the brand of vehicle.

Your watching Dust to Glory!

So would slee make the roll cage for us!

no wasnt watching the movie, was watching the one about andy mcmillin. I think we should go down there to spectate the race this november...see what everyone has and what kind of support systems they have setup. From there we can decide if its fesable for us to even attempt it.

Thats not it. It was for sure a 100 series almost stock looking, maybee a mild lift and 285's.

It was in the production class and as of day 11, it was in the lead.

I will look for it more tommorow but Im 100% sure it was a type of 100 series. It would be great if a Land Cruiser won the production class because a 5000 mile race accross Africa is just plain BRUTAL!!!

Once again proving why Land Cruisers are loved by so many....reliability

I would suggest to get ahold of this guy, Ikuo Hanawa, who is the only "pro offroad driver" in Japan.

He has tried Tundra, Geolander (sp?) and FJ Cruiser at Baja 1000 at different classes for many years. Is there someone on this thread who is at Japan and/or can speak & read Japanese (maybe he knows english if he traveled alot?).

Ask him why he didn't choose or was assigned to drive Land Crusier, 80 or 100 series from Toyota?

The other question is "Production class" for Baja 1000, does it mean 100% unchanged or only the shocks, tires and suspension related parts can be beefed up?

Although IFS is favored over solid axle at Baja 1000, there are different types of IFS. The coilover IFS seems to be in favor over torsion bar. The torsion bar is the 100 series's archilles heel, it barely support heavy platform at high speed.

All I know is that if he said why not let try 100 series then it would be this year, 2007 instead of 2012, I can't wait that long!

Cheers,

Stock Mini overview

"Stock Production, Mini Utility - Vehicles built from a 2 or 4 wheel drive mini or mid-sized pickup or sport utility vehicle having a maximum stock wheelbase of 125". Vehicle must have been series produced in quantities of at least 5,000 units within a 12 month period and be readily available to the general public in the U.S.A. Vehicle must be marketed as mini or mid-sized pickup or sport utility vehicles."

Stock Mini is basically a carbon copy of Stock Full, but on a smaller scale. With millions of mini trucks on the road today, Stock Mini draws a lot of fans to the desert who are eager to see just how well "their" truck will do when pushed beyond it's limits.

One of the biggest misconceptions about a Stock Mini are that they're slow & inexpensive. Wrong, wrong, wrong! Building a competitive Stock Mini can cost well over $40.000, but the results are well worth it. In races that average 60 mph for an "Unlimited" class vehicle, a Stock Mini will come in at about 35 mph. Very impressive when you consider that the other 25mph cost anothable modifications that increase their performance far beyond anything your dealer has on the lot. The 97 Parker 400 was proof positive of that assertion, with the Andataco Stock Full F-150 finishing the race with an average speed within 12mph of the winning Trophy Truck!

Engine and suspension modifications are severely limited, and factory components must be used in most areas. The rules allow for mods like multiple bypass shocks, which contribute dramatically to the vehicles' performance.

The bodies of a Stock Full truck retain all the factory sheet metal, making them among the heaviest trucks in the desert. Contributing further are parts like the factory dash, which add to the weight, but maintain the "stock" nature of the trucks.

My guess is that you will see the FJ Cruiser going from stock to class 3 soon. Both classes run at about the same speed but you get a lot more option for mods. in class 3. It will be interesting because class 3 is mostly straight axle.

A little late, but the Speed Network had a show " Two Roads to Baja" which featured two FJ Cruiser Teams racing in the Baja 1000. One Fully supported and one on a show string budget... these hope for TeamLoud yet. :D

ya they are just doing a rerun on that right now. I just cought a glimpse of the toyta truck #14. It was a trophy truck not production class.
