I don't know. The other guy's adjuster is going to come some time this month, and he's going to tell me what he's going to do. I hope that it isn't totaled though.

:frown:

WOW, that damage looks almost exactly like mine. One insurance company wanted to total mine and the other did not. It is currently at the body shop being repaired. :) I hope yours is not totaled - good luck.

Well, thanks for the support. From what I can tell with everything still on, the frame looks straight and true, but I will only really be able to tell when I get the sheetmetal off.

Thanks guys.

Ouch. Why's the Lexus banged up on both sides and rear?

Did it spin around or something?

Good luck! If the insurance Co tries to screw you and total it - i'd go after the driver in small claims. my .02 I f'ing hate insurance companies. They tried to screw me out of my motorcycle that their guy hit and knocked over in a parking lot. of course dipwad didn't leave a note or anything, but got it on security cam. it was a nightmare! Good luck and hope you are back on the road soon.

you still might want to take it to a frame shop and have them inspect and measure the frame rails. it could be bent and you might not necessarily notice it by just eyeballing it. wouldn't want your Cruiser to "crab" down the road after you do all of that hard work putting her back together again...

That is definately a good idea. I was going to do it myself after I take off the fenders but it would probably be a better idea to take it to a shop, right? I could just measure the local junkyard's 60 for a comparison, and that hasn't been in a crash from what I can tell. Can I do it myself?

Thanks for the tip. If they total it, what happens? I know that they will just give me a check for the value of the truck but what else happens? It's looking like I'll be able to repair the front for about $400 and the lowball value for my truck I figured to be about $1400. Therefore there is alot left over to have it painted or get new springs and tires. What else happens? I it worth the trouble to go to small claims?

Thanks

I hit the Lexus' driver's side front quarter really hard, and that shifted everything so much that it looks like it got hit from both sides. REALLY rough. It's hit in the back because when I hit it, it spun around and smacked my truck in the rear with its rear. Definately a bad accident.

I'm just glad that I could drive it!! I actually went to my friend's for hot chocolate before I went home, the same friend who let me use his camera phone.

If they total it tell them you want to "buy it back". They'll deduct the price from hte check and you will still have enough to fix it. The only issue with this is that it will have a salvaged title. If you plan on keeping her for a long time and building her into trail machine then this should not be an issue. The only time it will be is when you go to sell her, it will drop the value a bit to some buyers. I personally have owned many "salvaged" vehicles and not had problems with them. Good luck!

I would've sworn that your truck was the one sitting "wrecked" in a yard off of 40th and University. I went to look at it yesterday and the yard owner was out. Good to hear that they're fixing it for ya.

This is what I was trying to tell you b/f yes, you need to at a min take it to a shop and let them look at it. Check the frame etc. Unless it is just very minor it is smart to let a professional check it out.

Well, I got the numbers from the insurance adjuster today, and to put it lightly, I was ecstatic. Take into account that I recieved the truck, and 1987 FJ60 for $0 as a gift, and I have put $700 ino it to get it to where it was the day before the accident.

They valued it at $4050
Salvage value is $350
Check being mailed to me; $3700

Good flipping game. Now what should I do, buy another LC preferably without rust, fix the one that I have, or buy a BMW that I have been wanting for 8 years or so? I need to do some serious soul searching.

It all depends what is going to be most comfortable to you. If you wanted to fix what you have, you could also add some other good stuff to it to make it the more fun/reliable to drive. As you can tell reliable IS fun to me as I like to take the long road. You could always part the Cruiser out and make a little more money for the next car. I owned a e34 BMW for many years and it was a great car with the best memories of any car to date, but I've caught the Toyota bug, and it helps me stay out of trouble. Do what feels best.

sounds like a nice score with the check. I would part out the cruiser. Take the $ you have and get whatever you want. But make sure you think about what you really want. Take your time looking and then buy it.

I will say this. Think about how much different vehicles cost you. To operate, repair, etc. I say this as I remember you talking about $ several times.
BMW and Land Cruisers are not the cheapest vehicles to operate. Just a thought.

I hate to say it, but, based solely on the pics, it looks like the Lexus/Camry gave about as good as it got.

Dayummmmmmmmm!!! That's pretty sweet right there!

GLTH -
You could pound out the front end yourself & keep driving it until you find your next 60 (hopefully with a rust-free body & frame & bad engine/drive train).

I'd compare insurance costs before I embarked on the BMW route. And look at parts prices. I was shocked when I found out a long time ago that their parts were more expensive than Porsche's (my first 4-wheel love is the 356).

You've made an investment in an FJ education & it was just starting to pay off. You could have a nice rig for the $3500 & your present one.

Now that you are getting a check, you always have the option to get it repaired by someone that can still do quality work, but for less than the amount they gave you. You can spend the balance on making your 60 even better. Maybe a custom front bumper as a gift to you cruiser is in order.

Best of luck in whatever you decide.

That's true. The thing is that to repair what has been damaged to the rear quarter, the entire panel needs to be replaced due to the extensive rust that existed there before the accident. I love Land Cruisers, but I am thinking more and more that this particular one is a lost cause, for me that is.
