Finished the drawer/slide box and test fit. Still lots of visibility to the rear and sides as long as not loaded for travel. I'll add wings on the side for flat storage platform space (mocked up in these photos).

Love your build, keep up the great work! Spotted you a while back on 1431 near I-35 and earned a smack from my wife for (allegedly) being distracted and "almost killing us" (gross exaggeration)! Not often I see a shortie 70 series around here! :)

Painted, varnished and carpeted the drawer system. Added the wings on the sides.

And...received my new Lithium Ion batteries. Have been doing a lot of research so decided to go with these as aux battery solution. Both batteries together weigh less than 13 pounds! Will post more installation details as I go. Planning to locate the batteries in the cargo area (LiFePO4 batteries do not like the engine compartment heat). I'll be testing, but indications are that these batteries will run the fridge and aux electrics for almost 48 hours without recharge...TBD

Mounted the DC-DC charger and ran 6 gauge wire from vehicle battery/alternator to aux batteries.
The two batteries fit behind the left fender and are connected with an Anderson plug.

Front bumper progress. Despite my attempts to do bad welding, the bumper has turned out pretty well. Tube work is next but I received the wrong set so waiting on that.
Raptor black coming soon.

Rear Bumper...Not so easy. I already knew the rear bumper was designed for the 78 not the 71. I actually discussed this with Coastal Offroad before I bought it. I told them I would document the differences and provide measurements. So far there have been several differences and it has become a custom bumper build....
So far:
The bumper is closer than stock, which is great. Unfortunately it is too narrow for the 71. Wondering if the 78 is narrower by about 1"?

The rear most frame member is flush with the body on the 71 so the bumper kit sticks out 1 1/4" from the frame. So I drilled and used the four bolts at the center of the frame. Added a stand off between the new bumper and the frame.

The sides are too long by over 10" so trimmed those:

So none of the angles are lining up. Will fill with other metal when finishing.

All that said, it's going to be awesome! And I am enjoying the build. More to follow.

Bumper is almost finished. Need to trim a bit in a couple spots, but pretty happy with the results. Bumper mounts with 10 bolts to the frame. Planning on black Raptor for front and back bumpers. You can see how much lower profile the bumper is by how much the stock exhaust pipe is sticking out.

Also received my aluminum parts from Tnutz to build my roof rack. Took about 4 hours to assemble now that I've built a couple. I've used 6 Smittybilt rack brackets ($140) and everything else is from Tnutz ($400). Total weight is about 60 pounds.
Happy to share my parts list if anyone is interested.

Added the Roo Bar work up front. Pretty happy with the design. Great kit from Coastal Offroad...at least for the front. The tube is provided with various curves and lengths so you can decide how to use it. I'll provide my build info for the rear so they can see the differences for a kit.

Finished the bumper fab. Will raptor later this week. Today dealt with the peeling chrome on the grille. Not sure if Toyota should stay subdued or be white?

Rear bumper installed and tailpipe trimmed. Really happy how it turned out. Great departure angle too.
