Hey everyone, I just put a deposit on a '08 Magnetic Gray 200 LC with 98,786 miles. It's a 1 owner Doctor's wife Cruiser with an impeccable maintenance history. The Doctor has bought 4 land cruisers for his wife over the last 18 years at this dealer, and it was serviced only at this dealership. My purchase price is $29,750 which I feel is a pretty good deal considering. So, I just received a nice bonus from work and have around $10k of disposable income to play with for mods. I live in upstate NY, so I can't run over to SLEE's place lol. Anyone know of a reputable 4X4 shop anywhere within a days drive to have mods installed? And, since I am a 200 newbie, any advice/recommendations on mods/deals would greatly be appreciated. Thanks a bunch.
Paul

That pic is when it was traded in and hasn't been detailed, buffed, and polished yet :)

Congrats! After checking out any 100k mile preventive maintenance items -- radiator, water pump, brakes, fluid flush, etc, the first thing I'd do is sliders, suspension/UCA's, and wheels/tires. Then I'd contemplate skids, bumpers/winch, drawers, roof rack and awning, but that's me. Can't help you on a shop near you tho, but interested on to hear how you proceed.

Thanks so much. It is in excellent condition for sure. I called and spoke to the service supervisor and he went over all 37 maintenance records with me, which were all either preventative or routine maintenance. The Doctor's wife was apparently very thorough regarding maintenance, but I may still baseline everything just for piece of mind. I like the idea of sliders, suspension, and wheels/tires. However, this is all dependent upon finding a reputable shop to complete the work. I can't wait to get started.

If you can't find someone local you could make a roadtrip of it and travel to any number of shops associated with a number of forum members here. You know you'd not only get knowledgable and experienced 200 series guys advising you along the way but the peace of mind that comes from having the job done right. Not to mention that depending on who you go to, you'd get a chance to try out the new mods in some awesome locales...

Thank you for that information. Can you please get me in touch with any of these aforementioned members? Honestly, I would prefer to have it done by an experienced 200 member who can also teach me some things. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks again.

Iron Pig Off Road is a great shop on the East Coast

Congrats
Thanks! They are about 6.5 hours from me, so that isn't too bad. I will give them a call on Monday to inquire.

This isn't necessarily the most exhaustive list so everyone else please feel free to chime in -- I didn't intentionally leave anyone out.

These guys have a presence on the 200 forum

Kurt ( @cruiseroutfit )
Cruiser Outfitters

Christo ( @sleeoffroad )
Sleeoffroad.com - Toyota SUV Off-Road Outfitters

Carl ( @justdifferentials )
Home Page - JustDifferentials.com

I'm not sure if Brian ( @bjowett ) has a shop per se, but if not he will have solid advice and might be able to refer you to a reputable shop closer to you as I believe he's in western MA
Jowett Performance

@Romer already mentioned these guys (a vendor here -- they don't necessarily have much of a presence on the 200 forum, but have a strong rep and have experience with 200's), IPOR built 200 :

Iron Pig Off Road

Another member just had some nice looking custom work done on his rig Bear, My 200 Series Newbie Build (which is up for sale at the moment so far as I know), not sure if they're vendors on this site but they do nice work on Toyotas:

Bumpers - Rock Sliders - Tire Carriers - Cbioffroad - Cbi Off Road

If you're ever looking for OEM parts, @beno can also hook you up shoot him a PM or email him: parts@landcruiserpartsandconsulting.com

Otherwise, just keep reading the various threads and I'm sure you'll find more info than you'll know what to do with...

Thanks SO much for all of that helpful info. I plan to read some threads over the weekend to get up to speed and become somewhat educated about my new rig. Thanks again, I really appreciate it.

$10k? Hmmm...

$3.6k +600 for install: BP-51 Suspension front and rear with front UCAs
$1k: Slee sliders
$1.2k: 5 BFG KO2's
$800: Used Rock Warrior Wheels:
$400: Weathertec mats
$650: ARB Skid-Plates
$1.8k: ARB Drawers

=$10,050

If you do the standard OME lift which is just fine you save 2K that can be applied to other Mods. I am very happy with the OME lift. I am sure the BP-51s are better. Just thinking about stretching his money a bit farther and he could get an ARB front bumper with that money

Ya... Swap out to OME, and you can add in a roof rack and lights...or a bull bar.

I would add Spidertrax spacers to that lift setup

That sounds like a perfect setup. Then, i could pick up a front/rear bumper maybe later this fall/spring. Until then, this setup will drive nicely. I think I may add 4:30 gears as well. Thanks for the recommendation.

Ya, that list I wrote is literally what I've done to my LC over the past year...plus Spidertrax.
