Hey guys just got my 77 FJ55 on the road a couple days ago and have a couple of questions. I have never had one before and was wondering what most of your guys 55's max speed is. The truck drives great and almost seems like it needs a 5th gear.

Thanks man, I haven't gotten it over 50 yet, it seems like 3rd gear starts around 35 or 40 and I didn't want to drive it to fast not knowing how fast these trucks were meant to go. Can't believe you got yours up to 78, animal
Nice Piggy!
Are those 33's on there?
The 4.11 gearing does seem to want a 5th gear, but that rubber overdrive of the 33 inch tire make 70 do-able, provided that brakes and suspension are in good shape.
Someone took some time on that rear bumper...
I had half the pedal left. before the powerplant upgrade, I would typically shift around 15 into second, then about 30 into third and between 45 and 55 for the transition to fourth, depending on the grade...if you're not sure your motor is up to the task, try to keep it below 3K, and cruise around 25-2700 rpms. bumper is cool, but your front doors are pointed;p
Matt- congrats on the pig, keep it nice and happy or Jeff might want it back! I can go 65 or so without problems in my 55, it has 33's and a V8. At 64MPH I am taching 3000RPM. I don't drive either of my land cruisers much faster than that. Gary S
Thanks Gary, I'm really enjoying the pig and needed to get it on the road after losing one of my best friends since I was ten 3 weeks ago. Been having a rough couple of weeks and getting the pig on the road and driving it for the first time was great. Nothing clears my head more and gets me more relaxed than a nice drive up to the beach. Hopefully going to get it back to its nice 2 tone paint job by spring.
Very cool to hear the Pig is therapuetic during these tough times...
Take it easy, hope you can enjoy little things (like cruising in the Pig) right now.
