Pic will come tomorrow. I have a favor to ask. Im a noobie to the LC family. I bought and drove the truck back from Berkeley to Garden Grove just now. It drives smooth and handles very well but stopping feels weird. It feels like the tires want to keep moving forward. Maybe because it has 33" tires. Is there anyone cool enough and have 30 min to spare to inspect and drive my truck and then tell me the goods and the bads about it. I'll come to you. Thanks

Phuc

Congrats! My buddy just bought a fully locked rig as well. As for the brakes I will say they definitely don't stop on a dime. But does the peddle feel low or weird? Or is it just the lack of stopping?

Your best bet if you are not all that mechanically inclined is to go to a Toyota mechanic to have him look it over. And I would have them baseline all of your fluids.

I'm sure someone on here can at least recommend a good shop in your area.

Enjoy the Future Obsession!

First and foremost - Mud Welcome! :flipoff2:

Details on the truck? Year, color, mileage, lift, modifications, etc.

33's should not make any difference on the feel of braking with these beasts. That being said, IF there is one and only one area under engineered on these trucks, it's the brakes. On 'average' you'll blow thru front pads about every 15K. Pads will cost you $45-50 to purchase if you install. A stealership will get you for about $200+ for a simple front brake pad replacement.

If you are at all mechanically inclined:
1. Check your brake fluid. Full and clean?
2. Inspect the flexible brake lines to the calipers. Any bulges?
3. Inspect the wear on the pads themselves. Need replacing? A pad slap is an easy  :wrench: job. Shoot, if I can learn, anyone can.

All that being said, I work in Costa Mesa if you've got the time to bring the truck this way. I am very close to South Coast Plaza for reference.

It jerks a little before stopping but stop just fine. I have test drove only other LC with stock wheels and dont recall it feels like this.

I haven't gotten a chance to check the brake fluid and pads. The tires are 305/75/16 so probably bigger than 33". I thought they were 285. I plan to do all the PM on my own.
It's a White '97 with deleted flairs, 209k, 305/75/16 tires on I think original suspension, custom front and rear bumper with tire carrier. Everything is stock. I put alarm on it this afternoon.

Congrats! Did you check the bushings in the "J arms"? They could be toast or something is loose.

I dont know what the J arms are. Will look at the manual later.

Thanks for all the responses. I changed out the spark plugs but the old plugs look very good, and pressure washed engine and under carriage this afternoon. Tomorrow I plan to replace the transmission oil, reseal the pan, drain out engine oil since I put seafoam in there this afternoon before seeing the sticker from an autoshop that says I dont need to do it for another 2k miles, and probably brake fluid.

Here are the pics in low res. I plan to add some steel tubes to the bumper like ARB.
