Hi guys,
I a the proud new owner of a 1976 FJ45. It is is great overall shape pending some body rust removal and a fresh coat of paint.
I do want to replace lights, knobs, handles, trim etc and would like to know what you guys feel are the best resources for these type items. I'd like OEM or exact match reproductions.
Have patience with this newbie :hhmm: as I gain knowledge knowing any and all information is greatly appreciated.

Amaurer here on mud does knob reproductions.

sor.com
cruiserparts.net
CruiserDan (guy here on MUD)

SOR is expensive but they have more parts than anyone

:flipoff2: Welcome to mud official salute.
I have nothing to add for sources other than stay as close to original as possible.

Here ya go!

Pssst....

That's not an FJ-45 (or it's had some changes made to it). The "diesel" grill badge makes it an HJ-45. That's 3 1976 HJ-45 LWBs I know of on here (yours, mine, and fluffybunnysui's).

More pictures! Especially of the motor and all the diesel details. How does the H feel in terms of power for you? That's beautiful.

Dan

Yours doesn't have the year posted Dan and I thought Fluffy's was a 77. No matter welcome anyway

Hey guys

Yes, it is a right hand drive. It has AC, 5 speed, split case, and has the 2H engine (I was told). Front brakes converted to disc and I have the original wheels; the previous owner added the ones in the picture. It has about 86,000 kilometers and I believe it was shipped from Australia.

VIN HJ45007223 (:o so THAT'S why thee was an "HJ" in the vin and not an "FJ"...)

It is extremely nice except for some rust on the body which is being dealt with as we "speak". I'll need to replace one of the grab-handles at the roof; passenger side, and get new light lens covers. Seriously, this is all it needs to be first rate.

Anyway, I had been rebuilding a 1985 Jeep CJ for the last 6 years; did a complete frame off restoration and about 6 months ago, I took it to Javier's in Houston (first rate 4 x 4 mechanic) to have the final project checked over; add a/c, adjust drivetrain, and various other odds and ends, and at some point I noticed this HJ (Javier's daily driver), fell in love with it as I've always wanted either an FJ40 or a Defender (don"t be angry!!). Well, after seeing this HJ for several months when I'd check progress of the Jeep...it just worked out. Javier now has the Jeep (and a few xtra bucks) and I have the HJ; win-win.

I love this thing and cant wait to get it on the trails.

I wish I had more of the HJ's history (and will ask next time I see Javier) but that's about all I know for now.

I won't mod it out since it is so original and in such good shape. we have a place in Colorado and I plan to leave it up there and hit the mountains.

I'll post more pictures (especially the engine as requested) when I get it from the body shop (est time= 2 months).

Take care guys!

I am pretty sure that no pre-80 45s came with disc. I don't think any 45s came with discs. The split case and 5 speed must also have been installed later. Please correct me if i'm wrong.

I didn't think any 45s came with grab-handles either. I would love to see a pic of yours. It is a mod I have been thinking of for a while now. My passengers need one.:D

A real clean looking truck though, and desert biege to boot, my fave.

My fault, don`t read the thread from the beginning, just looked at the picture and thought it`s a 1984 .
Cheers
