Because there are a whole lot of Americans over here sending them to the US to be loved, restored and wheeled!:grinpimp:

Cheers,

Josh

haha seems to be a lot of truth to this, there is even dedicated shops to restore them over there. I can't believe the vendors of Toyota parts that is available to you guys too. I was just looking on ebay international and on here at the repro parts, like gear knobs, shift pattern plates etc...if you want parts like that over here you've just got to hope to find good ones at the wreckers.

Sorry to get this thread off track, but I too can't believe the lack of good FJ45 parts here in Australia. We have thousands of these trucks here but few are in good condition, the styleside ute bodies (pickup beds) are almost extremely rare, and quality reproduction or restored parts just don't exist.

I'm not sure of the reason (the size of the US economy & population maybe) but it seems crazy that I would consider importing parts from the States that probably originated in Australia!

I don't know of any Landcruiser-specific outlets here in Oz like SOR, CCOT etc, let alone the specialist repair and restoration shops you guys have.

Damn you lazy Aussies!!!! (including me).

yeah, how come I couldnt find any as original and clean as this when I was looking for one over here, and especially with the styleside tray on it...seems like all ours are hacks compared to a lot of the ones you guys get in the states

This is why Aussies don't have many nice Troopies left. This is/was a beautiful rust-free 1984 HJ47 here in Adelaide with air con which was jumped 10' in the air, came down and rolled. This bloke has now purchased a nice BJ73 FRP to do the same with.

I got the tachometer and guages out of it. It still has a Safari Snorkle if anyone needs it. The rear seats are also in there, but someone has gotten the bottoms. The wiring and air con is still complete. Ring Rod at 618 8359 4499.

It is pretty amazing to see Cruisers like this being trashed just for fun. This photo has not been photo-shopped or altered in any way at all.

Cheers,

Josh

Blasted bed

OK, yesterday I spent 5 fours abrasive blasting the bed of the truck (removed and taken to my shop; I own an industrial blasting and painting shop). I used an abrasive called "sugar-sand"; basically a very fine media intended on cleaning all paint, rust and contaminates without metal distortion (I won't bore you with shop talk; anchor profile, etc). Anyway, what I thought would take 3 hours, took 5.
Well, I discovered a bit more body filler that I expected to see (don't know if it was factory or from a previous paint job). I DID discover a bit more rust that I wanted... So, I removed al the rust and then primed with a hard core zinc filled epoxy primer (Ameron 68HS-oilfield equipment primer we use for offshore oil rigs). Today, I will topcoat the bottom black with a VERY hard epoxy called Ameron Amerlock II. Then the bed goes back to the body shop so they can do their magic on the steel to replace the rusted areas, spray a "filler/leveling" paint and then top coat (I think Dune Beige) along with the rest of the truck (they are working on this simultaneously).

Anyone know where to get new plastic "Land Cruiser", "Diesel" and "Toyota" emblems so I can go back with "shiny" ones??? Also, the silver, elliptical sticker on the tailgate that says "4X4"

I am getting excited!

Cheers for now, Eddie

BTW, I did take some pictures and promise to post when I have time.

sor.com is pretty good for things like emblems and stickers. Be sure to get the factory ones where you can, I have seen some from CCOT and other after-market ones which were not too impressive.

Looking forward to the photos. Sounds like you are really going to town on this rig! Are you going to blast the tub, top, doors and front end as well?

Cheers,

Josh
