County is moving to stage two fire restrictions starting tomorrow. If you read what there are almost makes camping impossible to do legally. Do not believe the road you camp on is even on the travel map. May have been within the limit of the main road of camping was allowed. Now can be no further then ten feet from a legal road and only if there is no vegetation. Thirty-four abandoned camp fires were found in the forest over the weekend even with the ban on campfires.

That is why we have propane fire rings. I wish these would catch on with more people.

Very true. If you read stage two restrictions it's almost impossible for a group to camp. Plus would be worried they may be patrolling heavier having found so many campfires last weekend. Have to double check but don't think the short road where the camp is is not a legal road. Can only have vehicles ten feet off a legal road with no vegetation where you park plus can not park on the road.

hey what year / color 62 do you have? is it the original A440 tx or have you switched to manual? thanks.

My FJ62 is gold 89 with just over 121K miles. Back is 93 when bought after looking for one for a year the gold one was the first decent one I found. Found a White that the seller flaked out on and a couple abused grey ones. Still has all the original running gear.

It looks like camping is fine as long as the vehicles are parked within 10 feet of the road. so tents/hammocks required.

Edit: according to AZ law if there are tire path marks it is a legal "maintained" road. You can still get a no insurance ticket in a registered vehicle on a back trail.

Ron/Abigail: Im coming up for camping Saturday morning and wanted to see what is left that is needed to brought for the potluck. Do we have enough plates/utensils/napkins?

Let me know, looking forward to it! thank you

Murf

no worries on the restrictions ~

I don't think we would even want a campfire at night... Maybe some chairs in a cluster with some low lit lanterns and a propane ring if desired? Some tasty pot luck, good conversation, and cold drinks - man, that beats being down in the valley right now!

Restrictions say to not park way off in the weeds, no shooting guns, or lighting off fireworks... oh well there goes the fun factor ..... :rolleyes:

I read that the Low temps at that elevation claim to be between 58 to 60 degrees. I bet after the sun goes down we will be looking at room temperatures. :cookie:

I think your missing the point where you point. That is not a legal road on the travel map. It is also federal Land. I in the valley for a quick trip went I get home I copy paste the email we got from the forest service stating you have to have any vehicles within ten feet of a legal road and can only park where there is no vegetation.

It is an area right off a marked road in the Forest. Think we are good. Good to hear you are coming murf!

Sweet! see you there bud

I'm on the fence for the run. Is there anyone on the wait list?

We are all set with paper/plastic products. If anything we may be able to use some additional meat for the tacos, Steve is bringing some carne asada and I am bringing some as well but it probably wouldn't hurt to have more on hand since this seems like it will be a large camping group.

9011R is on the Coconino National Forest map it's not on the 2017 Coconino National Forest travel map. Only roads on the travel map are legal to use. No effort has been made to barricade roads or remove signage. It's completely up to the public to get a paper map (free) or online. Don't believe this has ever been on the travel map but afraid with stage two restrictions just going into effect they may be patrolling heavier then normal. If you are caught may very well be extra fines for being more then ten feet off a legal road.

Meat it is! Abigail, you bringing the grill?

And a tape measure

Some shoes to fill with Ron in both the trailleading and cooking dept but we will all step up!

Sorry you couldn't make this Ron, best wishes for a quick recovery from your procedure :beer:

:lol:

Thanks Murf! Yup picked up the grill a couple hours ago from @Dimples, we're definitely gonna miss him on this run!

I think this is the current camping list/headcount for food:

@Chrismanjs (+1)
@verruckt1
@Abigail
@rctoyota (+1)
@Rudster (bringing own food)
@murf
@Saddletramp
@LandCruiserPhil
@Dissent + 2 (bringing own food)
@Clunky
@Pitch +1?
@Fishbone60
@tls3601 + 1?
@Cruddz
@ftbshop (dinner only)
@John Morgan
@Highway Romping
@Living in the Past ?
@Fuge
@Otter + family
@samtoddlee

Current potluck list is as follows:

@Chrismanjs Chips & salsa
@Otter Guacamole
@verruckt1 tortillas & taco shells
@LandCruiserPhil "spinach appetizer" (I think this means dip)
@Saddletramp 10lbs of carne asada
@Abigail toppings and 3lbs of carne, plates, utensils
@tls3601 sour cream
@rctoyota Dutch Oven Spaghetti peppers, onions, & mushrooms to sautee
@Highway Romping a dessert and chicken breast
@murf meat
@John Morgan sauce for dipping
@Fuge extra chips n salsa

If anyone else wants to contribute to the potluck maybe bring a few pounds of chicken tenders (I'll marinate if not pre-marinated), unsure of how much meat we'll have or need; last year we used somewhere between 20-30lbs. Should be good on meat, hopefully.

If you've decided not to camp or plan to be feeding yourself Saturday, please post up so we can get an accurate headcount for food planning to make sure we're not bringing way too much or too little--- thanks all! :) (OR alternatively if you are not on this list but do plan to be camping, please also post up!)
(anyone camping Friday, food is on your own!)

Checked and got a revised email. Off road travel is the same as before. 30' off any legal road and 300' in camping corridors. The difference is the area you drive and park must be devoid of any vegetation. That is the tricky part. If that area along 231 is a camping corridors could be up to 300' off that road on 9011R. Finding a area devoid of vegetation might be a problem.
