one note...there was parts from at least two nice looking mustard later model cruisers (doors, hardtop sides, fiberglass lids, w/s frames, etc) that, judging by the condition of the doors, were not rotted enough to be parted out, there were also parts from a 55 (white, judging by the hood), an olive 40, and a rattle can white 40...

i'm off to look at the stolen rigs section...

Title Issues

Not sure how difficult it is to file for a lost title in CO but I have a thought that migt help. Certain states, like TX allow you to retitle a vehicle with relative ease. You would have a disclaimer on there that it was salvage/unverifiable mileage, but when I recently titled my 78 it was exempt anyway. Long story short, pick a state where it is easy to get a new title issued. Once you get the valid form it should be really to retitle in your home state.

As for costs, it is $33 to title a car here, plus 6.25% sales tax. So in theory if you sold it to a TX resident for $100 you would pay about $35. Then they could resell it to you with valid title for same amount. I am sure you have a s***pile on your plate now but when you are ready let me know and I can send you some more info if it helps.

Mike, I can look into what Kansas requires to title the 45. I'll PM you for the details. We may be able to get a regular title in Kansas with just an inspection, then transfer it back to CO without too much hassle. I have a coupel friends on the highway patrol and will get with them. Glad you got the rig back.

Mike

Not sure, but I don't think that OK has salvage titles and even totaled out vehicles come back from OK with a clean title. Remember some of the old car dealers calling it "washing a title".

I had a similar issue with the crook in 2000. I know it's sometime later but after 3 small claims court dates he never showed up to I am out 1500. I live in brighton and was going to high school at the time I met john I wanted a fj40 badly so he told me he would help me build one and would cost 8k with 1500 for materials up front and I would have a nice cruiser in the end if I came over after school and helped him build it. (I also had a contract signed by napier) Well I got 2 days of work there tearing down a engine then the excuses started why we couldn't work on it from all the same excuses you guys all got. I even went to his home several times and no one was home. After all said and done the only thing I have from this is a 1500 dollar 2f valve cover I brought home to paint on my last day I worked with him on my so called cruiser but truth be known it was probably someone elses cruiser that we were rebuilding for me. I know this is some years later but if anyone has any contact info for ole napier I would sure like it. And if I run into him I may have a hard time not beating my money out of the crook. Or if anyone would like a 2f valve cover I have a nice painted one for sale for 1500!!!
