Here is my 1988 Bj74 Landcruiser. It has a 13BT with an Auto behind it. Factory Pto winch and huge bullbar (its coming off asap) Aluminium roof cage and stainless ladder on the rear. It's in all original condition atm.

We picked it up last night as is in pics below.

I also picked up a set of Front EFS Comfort 3" raised leaves today from the wreckers for $75 each... Should get it sitting level ;p

Also scored a set of 32x11.5r15 Procomp Mt's on 15x7.5 Black Sunraysias -13 offset. One tyre is torn but will get a replacement when they go on.

First things to do this weekend is remove bullbar and cleanup/respray the springs and install, followed by cleaning up and respraying chassis and diffs.

Plans before i get it on the road are-

Sliders.
Tube/plate front bar.
Plate rear bar.
New winch rope and fairlead.
Overall cleanup.
3" Exhaust turbo back.

Hope you like my build.
Josh.

"huge bullbar (its coming off asap)" ..... when you are removing that roo from your radiator you will have wished you had left the bullbar on.:D
Nice looking Cruiser by the way.

Welcome. Thats the same colour as my old 73 series. Good to see they didnt drill into the roof to fix the roof rack.
I wish Toyota had put some thought into asthetics of those bull/winch/platform things .
Might be able to make a swimming pool ladder out of it.

Is the body as rust free as it looks? Watch the back at the front and rear of the arches, feel around in there for sand/mud each time you go bush.

I agree the winch bumper is massive overkill and is made worse by making it so darn shiny. Add the equally shiny bullbar and it really stands out. I powder coated my Bj71 bullbar black which in my opinion helped tone it down a bit.

Thanks the bull bar is coming off and I'm going to make a bar out of plate with a single hoop in the middle to mount some spotties so a roo shouldn't do too much damage

It's got small rust bubbles around the windscreen but other than that the body's pretty much rust free that I can see it has had a few repairs though an the previous owner pulled part of the stickers off so I'll probably be removing them
Also it's jdm spec it's got the jap stickers for how to engage 4x4 an operate the winch on the glove box which is a tad hard to understand

Granted your bullbar is a little more elaborate than this example but you can at least see what "black" looks like.

Yeah I don't like how far it hangs out from the front I took it off last night an the whole front mounting plate for the winch is badly rusted so I'm going to pull it off an cut the whole mount back a bit an when I make the front bar up I'll be putting 10mm plate across the front so itll be about 100-120mm further back from where it was I've got it all in my head might draw it up today if I get a chance

Put it up on te hoist an checked all the floor pan an everything for rust an there's none

And two pics of the rusted winch mounting will get better ones in the daylight this arvo

Is this the one from Morayfield?

Can you post pics of your front bar? I'm about to do the same thing.

Heres a few pics showing the rust on the front winch brace, Decided we'll remove it and cut the side rails back around 60mm and then Re-brace it all and fabricate the new front bar.

The Bj had a add a coil setup in the rear which seemed to be really stiff and have no flex whatsoever (You can see in the first pics i posted) So we removed it today, On closer inspection it turned out to be a car spring cut down and literally sitting in place on a coil hat on top of the U bolts. It dropped about 2" after removing but i now have full flex each way and rides 1000x better. Anyways heres the Pics-

Setup still in

All layed out

Few flex shots showing the difference

Yeah it is, Had a look before Easter and put a deposit down and picked it up on Monday night.

I dont have anything other than a quick sketch i did but watch this build thread i'll post pics as we make it.

No, They have a winch cradle type setup which bolts to the existing rails. I was worried it was going to be longer rails in which case i'd be worried about cutting back etc but i dont mind knowing its a removable part.

I have a 74with factory PTO winch, put a ARB winch bar on raised the rear winch bracket by 15mm and front 40mm and did cutting and welding work on the lower front of ARB bar to winch spool-gear box to fit. Adds alot of weight. Put 2"lift OME heavy-duty springs allround, plus HD shocks 4 years ago. Sags a little in front now. Hi Redd, the PTO is engaged by one lever in cab when you clutch. The spool can be engaged by lever up front at winch. Winch speeds by selecting diffrent 1st through 5th in main gear box which is a H55F if manual. Not sure about auto box.
